Product Design Manager
As the Product Design Manager at Vessel Technologies, you will oversee the design and development of innovative housing solutions. You will manage a diverse team of architects, product designers, and mechanical engineers, ensuring that all design efforts align with Vessel's commitment to delivering high-quality, functional, and cutting-edge multifamily housing products. This role focuses on managing the design process from concept to execution, ensuring collaboration across disciplines, and delivering products that meet the company's design and business objectives.
This position is located on-site in our NYC HQ.
WHAT YOU WILL DO IN THE ROLE
- Manage and lead a multidisciplinary design team, including architects, product designers, and mechanical engineers, to deliver innovative and high-performance housing solutions.
- Oversee the design process from concept development through to final execution, ensuring that all products meet the highest standards of design, usability, and engineering.
- Collaborate closely with engineering, manufacturing, and marketing teams to ensure seamless integration of design concepts into production-ready solutions.
- Define and implement the product design strategy, ensuring alignment with Vessel's vision for creating transformative housing solutions.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to the design team, fostering creativity, collaboration, and technical excellence across disciplines.
- Ensure design projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in alignment with the company's business goals and customer needs.
- Facilitate cross-functional collaboration to ensure that architectural, design, and engineering efforts are fully integrated.
- Stay current with industry trends, materials, and emerging technologies, ensuring that the design team continues to push the boundaries of innovation.
- Report directly to the CEO, providing strategic insights into product design and innovation to support the company's long-term vision.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design, Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
- 7+ years of experience in product design or architecture, with 3+ years in a leadership or management role.
- Proven experience managing teams that include architects, product designers, and mechanical engineers, with a track record of delivering successful products.
- Strong understanding of design, architecture, and engineering principles, with the ability to guide multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills, with the ability to inspire and manage a diverse group of professionals.
- Experience working cross-functionally with other departments such as engineering, manufacturing, and marketing to deliver cohesive product strategies.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with a focus on delivering innovative and design-led products.
BONUS QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in industries such as automotive, aerospace, or consumer electronics where design innovation is critical.
- Familiarity with advanced design tools and techniques, with a passion for continuous improvement in the product design process.
- A visionary mindset with a passion for integrating new technologies and pushing the boundaries of product design.
PAY TRANSPARENCY
- The base salary is around $150,000 annually, and additional forms of compensation, such as equity and bonuses, are included in the total package.
