THE POSITION:
The City of Hayward is recruiting for the position of Part-time Program Assistant in the Education Services Division of the Library and Community Services Department. Under general supervision, the Program Assistant assists in the planning, organization, implementation and review of volunteer programs of the assigned department in the City of Hayward; recruits, trains and evaluates volunteer staff; performs community liaison functions; coordinates public relations activities and education programs; and performs other duties as required. This position is responsible for coordinating the daily activities of the assigned department's volunteer program and for delivering various outcomes-based services and activities to the public in partnership with community organizations.
THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Library Services is responsible for Public Libraries and Education Services. Hayward's new 21st Century Library & Community Learning Center includes new spaces such as a Makerspace and Digital Learning Lab, dedicated after school homework support centers, and a teen area, as well as greatly expanded library collections. The 21st Century Library is the most environmentally sustainable project ever constructed in Hayward, and is among the largest "Zero Net Energy" public buildings in the nation.
