Under direction of the Dean of the College of Health Professions, the Program Director is responsible for the leadership and administration of the midwifery programs which includes recruitment and admissions support, oversight of the student advising function, program administration, curriculum, faculty development, course development and teaching, and continuing quality improvement.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Admissions/Recruitment:
Works with the Associate Dean of Academic Programs and the University Office of Enrollment Management to plan and manage the program’s recruitment and admissions process, including interviewing and selection of students, representing program at recruitment forums, contributing to marketing and communication efforts, and assisting with planning of enrollment targets and program budget.
Program Administration:
Oversees student’s advising process and satisfactory academic progress, with respect to programs requirements, coursework, and clinical competencies. Reviews and confirms candidates for graduation and certification. Initiates and manages internal and external collaborations, doctoral research, and clinical affiliations to advance program goals. Oversees the implementation of the policies and procedures that apply to the midwifery programs. Coordinates and oversees maintenance and submission of records for annual monitoring and reaccreditation by the Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education. Serves as representative to the Directors of Midwifery Education (DOME). Seeks and manages external funding for student scholarships and program initiatives. Participates in College and/or University Committees. Supervises the Program Coordinator.
Curriculum/Faculty:
Monitors program content, course syllabi, and faculty performance, through periodic course surveys and other feedback mechanisms to ensure that the programs/courses content is current and relevant. Manages recruitment and oversight of adjunct faculty instructors and doctoral project mentors. Teaches courses in the midwifery programs. Collaborates with faculty to ensure course content is aligned with program goals. Works with JCHP instructional design staff to ensure course content is unique, current, and relevant across all courses/modules.
In conjunction with program faculty and administration, monitors related scientific environment and recommend curricula to meet emerging trends and needs. Recommends new modes of course content delivery to meet emerging teaching and learning needs.
Serves as the content expert for the Midwifery programs.
Assists with marketing and communications efforts to promote the program throughout the enterprise and externally, including website, print, electronic, and social media resources.
Prepares documents/reports related to program assessment.
Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the core values of Jefferson.
EDUCATIONAL/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Master's degree required, Doctoral degree (DM, DNP, PhD, DrPH) prefrred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION:
Current American Midwifery Certification Board certification, Midwifery license in PA as a Certified Midwife or Certified Nurse -Midwife.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in both midwifery practice and education including faculty teaching experience equal to the Assistant or Associate Professor rank. Administrative and research experience in the specific discipline pertinent to the graduate programs preferred.

Ability to relate well to a diverse student body, understand the needs of students from underrepresented backgrounds, and appreciate and be committed to diversity in biomedical science education.
Ability to interact in a professional manner with students, faculty, prospective applicants, College and other University staff, and the public is mandatory.
Ability to manage competing priorities and work independently is essential.
Demonstrate strong collaborative and problem-solving abilities.
Requires demonstrated understanding of the mission of the Midwifery Programs within the complex academic health center environment; and, communication of a positive approach to student support and advising.
