Project Engineer, Utility - BKF Engineers

BKF Engineers is seeking a skilled Project Engineer with deep expertise in utility coordination and design to join our team. This role offers the chance to apply your knowledge to a variety of impactful projects across the Bay Area - roadways, highways, high-speed rail, pedestrian and bike infrastructure, transit, and more. As the primary point of contact for utility projects, you’ll lead all utility aspects from initial design through completion, managing relationships with external vendors and stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery. Requirements

• Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering or related field from an ABET-accredited program, or equivalent.
• 5-10 years of experience in Utility Design & Coordination for Roadway, Highway, Intersection, and Multi-Modal (ATP) Projects, especially with Public Works and Caltrans.
• Proven ability to manage and review deliverables for compliance with project and contract standards.
• Strong organizational skills for documentation and coordination, including managing meeting minutes, schedules, and correspondence.
• Experience communicating with construction crews and providing on-site oversight.
• Skilled in bid and construction support tasks, including RFIs, shop drawings, and CCO management.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with attentive listening.
• Proactive and comfortable seeking out necessary information independently.
• Effective at building relationships with vendors, consultants, and clients; proficient in leading meetings, preparing technical reports and memos, and writing technical specifications.
• Experienced in supporting RFP/RFQ processes and leading project interviews.
• Familiarity with survey and construction staking for utility relocations.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D; experience with Civil 3D Modeling, AutoTurn, and MicroStation V8i is a plus.
• Valid California Driver’s License required; PE license in California preferred, with EIT as a minimum.

• The typical base salary range for this position is $98,000 - $145,000 annualized depending upon skills, experience, education, and geographical location. This is a salaried position paid biweekly.
