Scope of the Role
The Project Management role will support our North American operations within Tait Americas. The Project Manager plays a key role in the customer journey by ensuring smooth delivery of complex communications solutions. The Project Manager is accountable for leading the project such the customer gets what they expected, when they expected it and within the cost that they expected to pay while ensuring that the Tait effort in delivering these outcomes is within plan.
The Project Manager will need to understand the whole business cycle of the project and ensure that the appropriate business processes are applied to the project to ensure a successful outcome for both the customer and Tait. It is expected that the role will require periodic travel to customer locations. Additionally, the Project Manager will work with TAM sales and engineering department staff in support of sales development activities to generate new orders for Tait equipment, systems and services.
Responsibilities
- Follow project management best practices and ensure that the customer requirements are clearly understood and captured in an appropriately constructed Project Management Plan and System Requirements Specification, which are communicated to everyone involved in delivering the solution.
- Upon project award,assume single point of contact responsibility for Tait on the projects and manage proactively to ensure delivery of all contract deliverables as agreed between the customer, Tait and all third-party contributors to the projects, assuring that project delivery and profitability targets are achieved.
- Clear, concise, and collaborative communication to customers, peers and partners at every stage of project deployment. Help to maintain lines of communication between all those involved such that the project benefits from open, honest and proactive communications in all directions.
- Ensure all parties involved in the delivery of the solution understand their role and responsibility within the project.
- Deliver the project on-time,with in the limitations that are imposed by the physical resource constraints and monitor this with an appropriate visible project schedule.
- Plan and monitor a visible project resource allocation plan to ensure sufficient resources are available to complete the project.
- Managed the project expenditures to complete the project successfully within an appropriate project budget.
- Maintain baselined project budgets and accurately forecast revenue milestones.
- Responsible for all Tait internal services providers and third-party service providers, including solicitation, scope definition, contract negotiation, contract award and execution, project implementation and close-out, deliverables quality check and payment to services providers.
- Monitor the progress of the project and regularly report project progress along with previously set milestones.
- Manage and monitor change as is required by the project to ensure progression of the agreed deliverables and execute timely change orders to capture scope changes.
- Proactively anticipate, identify, track and mitigate risks, ensuring prompt reporting of project variances and issues that mayimpact the technical solution and any of the project milestones, deliverables, payments or customer delight.
- Have sufficient product knowledge to be:
- Credible when interacting with business and technical clients
- Able to identify appropriate overall solution to discuss with client
- Able to ask questions to ascertain an appropriate solution
- Able to draw a basic design of the system and its components
- Able to communicate client needs to Tait systems sales specialists
- Able to identify the key selling features and benefits of Tait's products relative to competitors
- Participate in the opportunity assessment and strategic sales planning of complex solution sale, providing project planning input, services basis of estimates, and contributing to the sales strategy for the opportunity.
Requirements
- Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification or equivalent preferred
- Bachelors in a related technical field or equivalent work experience
- Advanced project management knowledge, with at least 5 years of working knowledge of the effort required in planning, estimating, and managing the successful implementation of LTE, Land Mobile Radio (LMR), Military, or Network/Wireless/RF Communication Systems preferred
- Basic product and system configuration knowledge of radio communications systems preferred
- Sound commercial skills and have a basic understanding of the contract law
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Experience in tactful negotiation and collaboration as it pertains to contract management
- Advanced knowledge of project management tools, such as: Microsoft Project, Excel, Word and PowerPoint
- Houston-based is preferred, but candidates outside of Houston with strong adherence to job requirements will also be considered
- Willingness to be flexible as change occurs and proven adaptability to change in business models, customer requirements and environmental factors
- Confident and consistent presentation and meeting management skills, with a natural ability to lead cross-functional teams without direct management responsibility
- Business acumen and executive reporting finesse
- Experience leading in a matrix environment; able to get others to perform without line management authority
- Must be able and willing to travel one to three times per quarter
Reporting Relationships
- This position reports directly to the Vice President of Business Operations.
- Involves a significant amount of interaction with the sales management, marketing, RF and system engineers, operations, finance, project management and product engineering teams.
- The Project Manager has no direct reports, but responsible for an integrated project team with matrix supervision requirements.
- Exposure to all levels of management within the business.
Occupational Safety and Health

- Ensure you know evacuation procedures and the whereabouts of fire exits and fire extinguishers.
- Know who your first aider and fire-warden in your area.
- Usecompany supplied protective equipment/clothing where necessary.
- Immediately report circumstances you consider may present a hazard to yourself or others.
- Report any accident whether minor/major.
