HJF is seeking a Project Manager II to support the Murtha Cancer Center Research Program (MCCRP) at the MCCRP Rockledge Office located in Bethesda, Maryland. The Murtha Cancer Center is a modern, patient-centric, tri-service military healthcare facility. Its comprehensive core of military and civilian oncologists and other cancer-trained clinicians and researchers provide multidisciplinary cancer-care delivery and patient-family support services. Our Cancer Center, the only DoD Cancer Center of Excellence within the Military Health System, offers its patients access to cutting-edge cancer diagnostic and treatment technologies.
Cancer Screening Research Network (CSRN) | Division of Cancer Prevention
The Department of Defense (DoD), represented by USU/MCCRP, is participating in the NCI Cancer Screening Research Network (CSRN). The CSRN consists of seven civilian healthcare systems, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the DoD. The first study the CSRN is undertaking is a pilot study, known as the Vanguard Study (on Multi-Cancer Detection), which will enroll 24,000 total volunteers over four years. Multi-Cancer Detection tests are purported to screen for several types of cancers using only a blood sample. The study will address if detection with this method leads to better outcomes and more lives saved. The results of the Vanguard study will inform the design of a larger randomized controlled trial involving about 225,000 total people.
The successful candidate will assist in the scientific coordination and quality management of a study involving Multi-Cancer Detection Tests and other studies deployed at multiple, geographically dispersed Military Treatment Facilities (MTFs). The successful candidate will assist MCCRP leadership to ensure delivery of quality, efficient, and timely outcomes of research projects. They will be required to prepare monthly reports for MCCRP leadership, which will include scientific status updates, challenges/issues and quality improvement processes for the Vanguard project and other MCCRP projects.

Responsibilities:- Organize and manage the study activation process to ensure study startup is not delayed and monitor progress throughout the life of the study to ensure end-product is realized (papers, poster presentations, IP, etc.).
- Coordinate with investigators, clinical trial specialists, project managers, data specialists and statisticians from multiple institutions to support the Vanguard study and other MCCRP protocols.
- Collaborate with investigators in the development of workflows, SOPs, research protocols and preparation of regulatory submissions to Institutional Review Boards (IRB) at the MTF level.
- Facilitate the coordination of multidisciplinary efforts regarding quality management and regulatory readiness including coordinating protocol-specific training for study site staff and investigators, maintaining training logs and regulatory requirements.
- Work closely with Pl and external collaborators; attend cross-functional meetings in the coordination and execution of projects.
- Participates in routine (weekly/monthly) update and QA calls with MCC and/or MTFs.
- Assist with the development of statements of work, progress reports, metrics, deliverables, and milestones.
- Able to advise the Director of the MCC on what each partnering site needs to effectively contribute to Vanguard and other MCCRP protocols and support leadership in research initiatives helping to meaningfully advance project progress.
- Assist with the preparation, editing and submission of grant proposals, letters of intent, manuscripts, abstracts and poster presentations as needed.
- Manage complex project logistics.
- Performs other dues and responsibilities as assigned or directed. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.
Supervisory Responsibilities- Direct Supervisor: conducts employee performance evaluations and directs work activities for multiple staff at various sites.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree; Master's Degree preferred
- Minimum of 3-5 years experience required
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Proven experience as a Project Manager, to include proactive problem solving and project coordination skills.
- Knowledge and expertise in clinical research trials.
- Ability to meet project deadlines.
- Excellent communication and analytical skills.
- Fluency in the use of Microsoft products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background check.
Work Environment
- This position will take place primarily in an office setting.
