About the Job
The Property Tax Customer Service Representative (CSR) serves as a point of contact for customers by providing them with delinquent balances and responding to any inquiries, such as payment instructions and exemption information. Interfaces with client and other Harris County divisions, such as the Tax Office and the County Attorney's Office. Answers questions about the property tax collection process. This also includes, but is not limited to, performing daily collector and administrative duties while utilizing de-escalation techniques to resolve delinquent balances.
Duties & Responsibilities
Receives inbound calls and/or makes outbound calls to customers to collect delinquent property taxes. Research property owner contact information as needed.
Reviews tax statement collection notices and performs other tasks associated with quality control.
Maintains operational standards and production objectives by meeting or exceeding qualitative and quantitative targets to strengthen customer satisfaction.
Tracks correspondence sent, received, or requiring further action in the case management system.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Good verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to speak clearly and correctly and listen effectively.
Knowledge of basic math.
Strong customer service skills.
Good customer de-escalation and negotiation skills with the ability to handle calls in a tactful, fast, courteous and efficient manner.
Good analytical, organization and multi-tasking skills.
Must possess keyboarding skills of 30 wpm and 10-key touch.
Ability to work in a team environment and be open to change.
Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal skills and working relationships with others.
Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
Working knowledge of personal computers and related software including Microsoft Office.
Knowledge of the procedures to open, close, and update files and notes accurately using the case management database and run reports.
Ability to set and maintain goals.
Physical Demands
The position mostly requires sitting in an office environment, occasionally some standing, and light lifting, such as three or four reams of paper or books (up to 20 pounds or an equivalent weight) may be required. Includes repetitive motions requiring dexterity such as for keyboarding that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
Required Education / Experience
High School diploma or equivalent required from an accredited institution. Minimum one (1) year of relevant customer service experience and six (6) months' relevant call center and/or collections experience required.
