Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A master's degree in epidemiology plus two years of professional level experience in epidemiology.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
A master's degree in public health, which included twelve hours in epidemiology, biostatistics, tropical medicine, maternal and child health, occupational health, international health, community health, or any combination, will substitute for the master's degree in epidemiology only.
A master's degree in nursing, a social science, a biological science, or a behavioral science, which included twelve semester hours in epidemiology and/or biostatistics or a combination, will substitute for the master's degree in epidemiology only.
A doctorate degree in veterinary medicine which included twelve semester hours in epidemiology and/or biostatistics or a combination, will substitute for the master's degree in epidemiology only.
A doctorate degree in epidemiology will substitute for all of the required experience.
NOTE:
Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.

Examples of Work
The Infectious Disease Epidemiology (IDEpi) Section is responsible for reducing the occurrence of infectious diseases of public health importance. The Section conducts surveillance activities to detect cases and identify trends to institute appropriate intervention and follow-up control measures. This Public Health Epidemiologist Supervisor’s duties include coordinating and conducting epidemiologic functions and investigations to prevent and control the spread of infectious diseases in Louisiana. The position will be under the supervision of a Public Health Epidemiologist Manager.
15% Develops statewide strategic plan for epidemiologic approaches to enteric diseases including establishing collaborative relationships and planning initiatives with tactical partners.
15% Develops, implements and maintains Louisiana’s enteric surveillance system, including providing annual training opportunities and ensuring accuracy of data reported.
15% Participates in the formulation of statewide policies and programs related to enteric diseases; provides epidemiologic consultation and technical assistance to health agencies, healthcare networks, schools, food industry, and local communities regarding outbreak investigation.
10% Serves as a regional surveillance team leader for IDEpi; serves as a surveillance resource for lower-level epidemiologists and epidemiologist technicians, trains new surveillance epidemiologists regarding case classifications and reporting procedures.
10% Interprets, analyzes and evaluates statewide data submitted to the Infectious Disease Reporting Information System (IDRIS) from Louisiana facilities. Creates reports to identify problem areas and measure progress of prevention efforts.
10% Represents LA OPH in national enteric disease task forces. Conducts presentations and participates in workgroups and forums in accordance with CDC requests.
10% Assists in preparation of federal enteric disease grant proposal; implements grant activities; and assists in preparation of annual performance measures in accordance with federal grant requirements.
10% Participates in the hiring and interview process of Public Health Epidemiologists CPG positions directly supervised; provides direction and supervision.
5% Plans and coordinates epidemiologic services in health emergencies and outbreak/cluster investigations
