Contra Costa County's Health Services Department is offering an excellent career opportunity for individuals interested in a Public Health Microbiologist position.
Public Health Microbiologists are responsible for performing bacteriological, parasitological, serological, and virological examinations on human, animal, food, and water specimen. The incumbents will prepare specimens for analysis, make slide examinations, and perform cultural procedures which result in the identification of pathogenic bacteria such as tuberculosis or enteric organisms. The incumbents will also analyze food, milk, and water samples for pathogenic bacteria and toxic agents and perform serological tests on blood serum as an aide in the diagnosis of various diseases.
What you will typically be responsible for:
- Preparing specimen for analysis
- Making slide examinations and performing cultural procedures which result in the identification of pathogenic bacteria such as tuberculosis or enteric organisms
- Analyzing food, milk and water samples for pathogenic bacteria and toxic agents
- Performing serological tests on blood serum as an aid in diagnosis of such diseases as syphilis and other disease which result in an elevated blood titer
- Performing tests on brain material for the identification of rabies virus
- Performing various molecular techniques for the detection of viruses and bacteria
The eligible list established from this recruitment may remain in effect for six months.
