DESCRIPTION: The Public Safety Tech works to support the VPSO program and public safety department functions by performing the duties listed below and others as assigned and has responsibility for preservation of the condition and functionality of NAB Public safety facilities specifically to include the VPSO facilities and equipment. The successful candidate will perform routine maintenance, basic repair, and general upkeep on VPSO buildings, equipment, and vehicles.
DUTIES:
- Responsible for the planning, development, and implementation of a maintenance plan for all public safety related facilities and equipment
- Responsibilities may include assisting with the implementation of the NAB Public Safety Department strategic plan as it relates to the VPSO program and public safety facilities.
- establish effective methods to meet the fuel and heating needs of all VPSO Facilities.
- Expedite freight, supplies, and equipment to and from Kotzebue and the regions villages as needed.
- Performs variety of general duties in one or more of the building trades, vehicle maintenance, carpentry, plumbing, roofing, and other minor repairs for maintaining and repairing the facilities.
- Vehicle maintenance which includes oil changes and tune ups as required by maintenance schedules.
- Must be willing to travel to all Borough communities, sometimes on short notice.
- Ability to operate a variety of small equipment and vehicles including small boats under 25ft in length.
- Possesses the ability to lift and stack objects up to 50 pounds occasionally and frequently exert 10 to 20 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects.
- Work involves frequent periods of standing and walking, which may include climbing ladders and staircases.
- Work involves stooping, kneeling, crouching, twisting, turning, reaching, and bending at the waist. Indoor/ out-door work environment with exposure to extreme weather.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Accountability: Accepts responsibility for own actions and decisions and demonstrates commitment to accomplish work in an ethical, efficient, and cost-effective manner.
- Computer Skills: Uses computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work.
- Work experience that demonstrates skills in one or more building or mechanical trades such as carpentry, plumbing, roofing, and vehicle maintenance.
- Problem Solving: Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
- Work experience that demonstrates excellent communication skills, including speaking and writing skills, collaboration and building partnerships.
- Applicant must have or be able to obtain a valid Alaska Driver's License.
