Summary of Functions
The Quality Control Inspector conducts daily inspections to ensure compliance with company and customer quality standards. They possess the authority to enforce corrective actions for any deficiencies in work, equipment, or materials. Their duties encompass maintaining quality assurance protocols, conducting material testing, and analyzing test results. They execute quality assessments, perform inspections, calibrate equipment, and communicate findings. Furthermore, they manage project document control, prepare submissions meeting project specifications, and interpret plans to ensure project compliance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Inspecting the work in progress to assure compliance with the quality control plan and quality criteria as specified in the Contract Documents.
- Performing quality control sampling and testing during construction or ensuring that outside companies are performing tests according to the specifications.
- Verifying that the equipment used in testing meets test requirements, that tests are conducted according to procedures and best management practices, and that testing equipment and procedures remain consistent over the duration of the project.
- Identifying work that does not meet acceptance criteria, documenting defective work.
- Administering the Inspection Test Plans (ITP).
- Completing the daily field logs.
- Taking daily field photographs.
- Maintaining quality control document files.
- Inspect all delivered materials to document there are no defects in workmanship, they have the proper identification, are not damaged and delivery is complete.
- Visual inspection will also include the correct quantity, completeness evidence of compliance with approvals, and proper documentation in accordance with manufacturer's requirements and the contract documents.
- Monitor delivery, handling, and storage of materials per specifications.
- Observe that storage facilities are applicable, protective, and secure to prevent damage or contamination to equipment and materials per specifications.
- Review and maintain any manufacturer material certifications.
- Pertinent information will be entered, and any non-conformances identified during material inspections will be recorded on a Material Delivery Receipt.
Civil Inspection- shall include inspection, examination and testing of soils, piling, reinforcing steel, concrete, paving, fencing, railroads, structural steel and buildings. These inspections include both direct hire and subcontractor work. Inspection includes completion and sign-off of appropriate civil Quality documentation.
Piping Inspection- shall include inspection, examination and testing of underground piping, aboveground piping and pipelines. These inspections include both direct hire and subcontractor work. Inspection includes verification of test equipment, and completion and sign-off of appropriate piping Quality documentation including development and tracking of loop folders.
Experience/Education
- Degree in an engineering discipline (civil, mechanical, electrical, structural), preferred.
- Valid Driver's License and ability to drive on behalf of company business.
- The following safety training is preferred, but not mandatory. Company will provide additional training, as necessary.
- 40-Hour HAZWOPER Training
- 8-Hour OSHA Refresher.
- Competent Person Safety Training.
- 30-Hour OSHA Construction Safety Training.
- EM 385-1-1 Training
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- This role will include temporary night shift periods.
- Computer skills especially in the use Microsoft Word and PowerPoint and ability to manage files and records effectively.
- Thorough understanding of methods and processes involved in construction.
- Excellent interpersonal and good communication skills which include the ability to teach and explain methodologies.
- Well skilled in quality processes and also statistical techniques.
- Pay attention to details in order not to lose sight of anything, no matter how minor.
- Knowledge about measurement and test equipment.
- Ability to work well in a team.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and quality control standards.
- Ability to interpret instructions whether written, spoken, or in a diagram.
- Possess problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of mathematics – arithmetic, geometry, calculus, and statistics and their relevant applications.
- Ability to drive to project sites.
Physical Demands
The following physical activities or abilities are commonly, but not always, associated with the performance of this position. The actual requirements of this position will vary.
- Lift, carry and push/pull at least 50 pounds without difficulty.
- Be able to stand or walk on a project site for extended durations.
- Climb in and out of equipment.
- Ability to communicate effectively with vendors, management, and other co-workers, both individually and in front of a group is important.
- Ability to prepare, inspect and review documents is a critical component of this role.
The following physical activities or abilities are commonly, but not always, associated with field project sites.
- Be able to stand or walk on a project site for extended durations.
- Climb in and out of equipment.
- When on project sites or if performing some types of work activity wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including, but not limited to, earplugs, protective eyewear, gloves, hard hat, steel toed work boots, and high visibility safety apparel.
Work Environment
The following environmental/atmospheric working conditions are commonly, but not always, associated with the performance of this position. The actual working conditions will vary.
- Job Site environment, including, but not limited to, machines, tools, heavy equipment, chemicals, solvents, dust, fumes, noise, toxic materials; waste and infectious materials; work in inclement weather conditions.
- Occasional exposure to extreme weather conditions.
- Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities such as heavy lifting and climbing; work in confined spaces; work at heights, work around heavy construction equipment.
- Maintain effective audio/visual discrimination and perception to the degree necessary for the successful performance of assigned duties.
