- REHAB MEDICAL ASSISTANT JOB SUMMARY
A Rehab Medical Assistant provides care to patients of all age groups including infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatrics under the direct supervision of a physician, nurse practitioner, physician assistant, physical/occupational/speech therapist, or physical/occupational therapy assistant. Prepares treatment/procedure set up and prepares patient for visit with provider. Assists in managing daily schedule/board. Transports, directs, or assists patients to and from treatment areas. Prepares and completes paperwork for registration, census/schedule and charging patients. Prepares patient for visits, performs patient vital signs safely and correctly. Obtains needed medical information as appropriate, such as complaint, pain level, medical history, fall history, insurance changes, screen for suicide risk, medication changes and may be required to assist patient in completing forms for care. Performs clerical duties including patient appointment scheduling, answering multi-line phones, triage, greeting patients/clients, data entry, assists with chart reviews, insurance authorizations and registering/discharging patients chart. Performs light housekeeping chores, restock linen and supplies.
May work in acute care, outpatient, or skilled care.

Education and/or experience: Previous working experience in medical office and or hospital preferred but not required. High school graduate or equivalent preferred. Office experience using clerical skills preferred. Typing 40-50 WPM. CPR certification required.
Knowledge: Basic medical terminology, basic clinical knowledge, and computer / software knowledge required. Knowledge of specific assistant tasks related to the area. Principles and processes for providing treatment and customer service. Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, and procedures. Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition and grammar.
Skills: Excellent communication skills(verbal, written); Performs tasks appropriately to include vital signs, medical/personal history, review of medications and allergies. Basic skills such as vital signs, weights, aseptic technique, and medication administration, if applicable based on setting. Giving full attention to what other people are saying, asking questions as appropriate, not interrupting at inappropriate times. Adjusting actions in relation to others’ actions. Actively looking for ways to help people. Talking and writing in a way to convey information effectively. General computer skills using Microsoft office, basic knowledge of Word and Excel. Ability to arrange things or actions in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules. Must be an active listener. Communicates professionally with patients, families, physicians and other hospital staff.
Abilities: Must be organized, responsible, motivated and self-directed. Must be able to multi-task and prioritize in a busy setting. Must have outstanding customer services skills and the ability to problem solve. Able to project a pleasant and compassionate image. Must be able to deal with unpleasant or demanding attitudes in a professional manner. Works as a team to make sure the patient/family receive the best care possible. Must be able to physically work with patients-see physical requirements. Must be task oriented in an arena that can be fast paced. Must have excellent attendance.
