The primary location for this position is located in Iowa or the surrounding areas such as, Northern Missouri, Western Illinois, Southern Minnesota, or Eastern Nebraska. This position will require some in-person travel to where training is needed.
The Reinsurance Claims Trainer is responsible for incorporating instructional design techniques to deliver training solutions that improve individual and organizational performance in the Reinsurance Adjusting division. Training includes new hire, refresher, and advanced training for property claims adjusting roles.
This position is based out of your home with a company-provided vehicle for travel to the claim sites. Responsibilities:
- Provides training solutions to new hires and current property claims adjusters based on employee’s experience level. Training content includes but is not limited to standard claims protocols, procedures, policy interpretation, claims estimating software such as Xactimate and inspection software such as PalmTech.
- Partners with internal customers to identify educational needs including topics, sources, and content for training employees. Coordinates course content with RAP leadership as requested and reports on attendee progress as required.
- Identifies performance gaps of individuals and teams in partnership with the Reinsurance Adjusting Program Leadership Team customer. Gains information through a variety of resources including surveys, interviews, and focus groups. Recommends training solutions based on research and experience.
- Designs and develops course content to facilitate learning and understanding for students. Applies instructional strategies to facilitate transfer of knowledge from classroom to the job or career.
- Facilitates learning sessions using a variety of instructional techniques and formats, including classroom, e-learning, and in person field training. Learning sessions incorporate adult learning strategies customized to both group and one-on-one settings.
- Conducts field trainings with new hires and adjusters who require additional training. This includes ride-a-longs and onsite inspections.
- Follows through with learner and talent leader to gain feedback on the success of learning experience. Incorporates changes or modification to deliver as necessary.
- Measures return on investment of learning intervention through proven methodology, data collection and analysis.
- Reviews file work periodically to ensure professional, consistent claims service is provided. Gives feedback to ensure understanding and course correction when necessary.
- Serves as a leader and role model to others by incorporating core values and representing self and team professionally. Incorporates information into instructional sessions to ensure the success of others and acts as a coach or mentor for those on their career path.
- Completes special projects assigned by management.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in adult education, business, or related area from an accredited college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Requires a minimum of five years of home and/or farm property claims adjusting experience, with at least two of the five years as field experience.
- Experience in claims estimating software such as Xactimate and inspection software such as Palmtech.
- Technical insurance designations such as AINS, AIC, AU, API, CIC, or CPCU are preferred.
- Knowledge of adult learning best practices, instructional design, and needs analysis is preferred. Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, interests and learning and motivation styles.
- Demonstrated ability to write effectively to develop professional training material, correspondence and reports. Ability to think creatively to develop original ideas and concepts for training topics in a variety of forms.
- Ability to perform research, capture and analyze information related to training programs. Ability to conduct needs analysis or gap analysis.
- Ability to professionally present training programs and information primarily to a variety of groups and forums and present on other topics as requested, speaking in a way so others will understand.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines as required by business need. Ability to identify, set, and achieve goals. Ability to work to deadlines and manage schedule with frequent interruptions and multiple priorities.
- Ability to function independently and work in an environment with limited supervision.
- Ability to work in a harmonious manner with others. Ability to work in a team environment and assist team members with projects upon request.
- Monitors and remains abreast of industry trends, relevant state statutes and regulations through professional journals and/or associations.
- Ability to demonstrate good interpersonal, communication, listening and customer service skills. Must be able to listen for understanding and communicate to educate and/or inform with accuracy.
- Ability to use general office equipment and demonstrate basic knowledge of Microsoft Office suite products including MS Word, PowerPoint and Outlook, and basic knowledge of e-learning tools. Proficiency with Internet search engines, web sites, social media and other electronic means of communication for research and program advertising.
- Ability to maintain a valid driver’s license and travel to claims sites for ride-a-longs and field training for adjusters. Travel is approximately 20% of the time, roughly for 3-4 days in a month, usually in a row.
- Requires regular and predictable attendance to meet the customer needs of the position.

Supervisory Responsibility
- May lead Co-ops and interns assigned to the Reinsurance adjusting program. This includes interviewing, hiring, selecting and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Ensures staffing levels are appropriate to provide service and meet deadlines of position.
- Supports and develops individuals through coaching, feedback, and mentoring to assist team in accomplishing professional and technical responsibilities. May include recommending training programs or ensuring staff attendance at mandatory training.

- While performing the duties of this job in a standard office environment, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, talk and listen. The position requires the individual to frequently talk on the telephone. The employee may occasionally reach with hands and arms. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- This position involves work with computer keyboard and phone. Vision requirements are heavily tied to those associated with working with alpha and numeric data found on a computer monitor. Vision requirements include close work and the ability to focus.
- This position requires occasional travel to conduct training sessions and attend offsite meetings or seminars, including occasional overnight stays.
- The employee must be able to climb ladder, work on rooftops, and maneuver ladder as needed. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 35 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Internal contacts outside of division may include interaction with many areas of the company including direct claims, reinsurance, technology and the legal departments.
- External contacts include vendors, agents, and mutuals. Contact is primarily phone or e-mail.
