About the Job
Job Purpose:
Serves patients by providing nursing care for maternal and newborn patients.
Duties:
* Develops individual nursing plan of care by completing initial patient history; assessing patient's condition.
* Ensures optimal patient care by providing direct patient care; evaluating outcomes; consulting with other specialists; adjusting nursing care processes.
* Monitors labor progression by assessing current status; monitoring progress; tracking vital signs; being alert to possible complications.
* Maintains fetus health by monitoring fetal heart beat.
* Responds to emergencies by having necessary equipment, supplies, and drugs available.
* Supports the newborn by assessing the condition of the newborn; managing neonatal sepsis; working with the neonatal unit in caring for preterm infants and others with special problems.
* Helps new parents by providing information, assurances, and support.
* Serves and protects the hospital community by adhering to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and jcaho standards.
* Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
* Enhances obstetrics and hospsitalreputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
