Unit: 4th Floor East Wing
Level of care: PCU
Number of beds: 55
Patient population: Adult, peds
RN Ratio (Days): 1:4
RN Ratio (Nights): 1:4
Shifts: 12 hour
Shift times: 0630-1830, 1830-0630
Weekend requirements: minimum of every 3rd weekend
Self schedule, cyclic scheduling
Scrubs: Navy Blue, CNA Ceil Blue
Nursing Assistant support: Yes
Charge nurse: yes
Hands free: n/a
Additional unit support staff: Educator, Care Managers, Social Workers, Dieticians, PT, OT
Common Patient Diagnosis: CVA, TIA, shortness of breath, COVID, subdural hematoma, weakness
Common Drips/Medications: PCA pumps for pain management, cardizem, insulin
Required certs: ACLS, BLS
Other needed competencies: Telemetry
EMR: EPIC
IV Pumps: Alaris
Specialty Equipment Available: Mechanical lifts in every other room
Unit Challenges: Staffing
Float: Yes, ideally to MS areas. Float will depend on highest need.
Patient Experience challenges/focus: hourly rounding and responsiveness
Qualities for hires: A nurse on this unit is successful when he or she can manage the business of the day. The unit is a tight knit group and are great with helping each other out.
