What We Are Looking For
The Referral Coordinator is responsible for managing patient referrals promptly and efficiently, ensuring seamless coordination between internal and external healthcare providers. Understands the referral and authorization process for multiple payer sources. Provides guidance to providers on ordering referrals as needed. Processes and ensures the completion of referral orders to specialists. Works under the supervision of the Referrals Supervisor to ensure accurate and timely review and processing of authorizations. Requires exceptional accuracy, organizational skills, and strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
Schedule: 4 days per week, 10 hours per day, Tuesday - Friday, 7:00 am - 5:30 pm | Location: Hospitality Lane Administrative Offices, San Bernardino, CA
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DELIVERABLES
- Processes referral requests daily; reviews referral orders for accuracy of codes and supporting documentation, and receives, processes, and verifies authorizations.
- Follow up on specialty notes for completed referral visits
- Obtain specialist reports after patients' specialty visits, present reports for physician review.
- Receives and processes specialty notes to primary care physician to facilitate on-going authorizations for continued care.
- Serves as liaison and authorization resource to clinic staff, outside medical groups and patients.
- Contact insurance companies to verify patient eligibility and benefits.
- Inform patients/guarantors of their financial responsibility for scheduled services.
- Notify patients and/or clinic staff of any insurance issues affecting future services.
- Contacts patients as needed to update demographics.
- Utilize exceptional customer service skills to assist with problematic referral and authorization processes.
- Resolve problems in a timely manner.
- Develop and maintain professional working relationships with outside providers, vendors, and insurance groups involved in the referral process. Work cohesively with all other SAC Health departments.
- Assist supervisor with special projects as requested.
- Collaborate, teach, support and function in a teaching organization that embraces interns and residency programs.
- Demonstrate culturally sensitivity and respect diversity; work effectively with individuals of different cultures and socioeconomic status; show passion for service and the team.
- Consistently work with rotating doctors, residents, and interns to build a trusting, safe, patient-centered workplace.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Licensure/Certification: As a requirement of this position, you must receive EPIC certification for the module you have been hired into.
- Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a high-paced customer service environment or referral experience within the medical field required. Medical terminology preferred.
- Essential Technical/Motor Skills: Computer literate with knowledge and experience with specific software such as Word, Excel, Access. Must have proficient computer skills including data entry (35wpm). Must be able to use a variety of office equipment including fax machine, scanner, printer and copier.
- Interpersonal Skills: Skilled in working independently, but with supervision. Must have professional telephone etiquette combined with a pleasant and courteous voice. Fluency in English required. Must possess the ability to maintain a professional attitude in difficult situations and communicate effectively. Must perform as a team player.
- Essential Mental Abilities: Requires critical thinking skills. Must be flexible to perform a variety of tasks. Must be well organized. Must be able to handle multiple telephone lines ringing simultaneously. Must be able to prioritize work using strong decision-making skills.
- Work Eligibility: Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Must not now or in the future require sponsorship for employment visas.
