We are looking for a Registered Dietitian to support the dietary wellness of residents.
REPORTS TO: The Corporate Director of Nutrition Services
POSITION SUMMARY: The Registered Clinical Dietitian is responsible for all aspects of the clinical nutritional requirements and care of the residents of his or her assigned buildings within the Progressive Quality Care company according to guidelines established by The Academy of Dietetics. Provides facility guidance and support that is constructive, and facility focused to ensure compliance with federals/state guidelines and facility policies and procedures. Maintains and incorporates normal and therapeutic diet therapy and prescribed by the physician within the scope of his/her professional license, including proper clinical and administrative records.
Essential Position Duties:
· Completes a thorough and timely nutritional assessment for each resident to identify problems, issues, or needs to be addressed through the interdisciplinary team and Care Plan process.
· Assesses residents upon admission (within 3 days), quarterly and change of condition as determined by the MDS coordinator.
· Reviews resident weights regularly and documents as needed on significant changes.
· Calculates and makes recommendations to tube feedings as needed within 48 hours of initiation.
· Completes assigned section of the MDS, and CAA’s within time frames set by the MDS coordinator and updates it whenever there is a quarterly, annual, change of status or any other nutritional change that would require updating the Plan of Care.
· Develops and maintains nutritional plan of care in conjunction with facility interdisciplinary team members.
· Performs documentation as required and in accordance with facility charting and documentation policies and procedures and government regulations. Ensures documentation is accurate, informative and descriptive of the resident’s condition, the care provided and resident’s response to the care.
· Provides diet counseling per request to the residents of his or her assigned buildings as needed.
· Makes meal rounds.
· Exercises professional judgment in evaluating facility quality issues involving Nutritional Services and notifies the Administrator if issues are not resolved in a time frame defined by state/federal regulations, CMS and/or facility policies and procedures.
· Accurately assesses and evaluates the serviced and care provided using designated company forms.
· Collects data, follows up and writes quality assurance reports.
· Provides written clinical recommendations to Nursing Services and Nutritional Services that requires follow up.
· Supervises and assigns workload of the Dietetic Technician if covering one
· Monitors Dietetic Technician’s job performance and completion of assigned tasks for accuracy and appropriateness.
· Evaluates Diet Technician competencies in various areas of clinical care including, but not limited to, weight loss, assessing estimated needs, tube feeding calculating abilities tec.
· Provides reports on required facility forms that are direct and concise to facility teams.
· Inspects food storage/supply rooms, food prep/service and dining using a Monthly RD Facility Audit form no less than monthly. Recommendations will be made as needed to the appropriate staff/Administrator.
· Provides objective information of observation during the facility audit
· Participates in facility surveys
· Participates in Resident Council Meetings when requested and assists in the follow up of nutritional service issues as needed.
· Communicates with families and residents, as necessary.
· Assists in the nutritional services part of discharge planning as requested.
· Revises menus with the assistance of the Certified Dietary Manager.
· Updates spreadsheets for all therapeutic and mechanically altered diets using Innovations Services Diet Manual.
· Reviews therapeutic diet orders to ensure they are following facility terminology.
· Meets with Nursing Services, Medical Staff, Administration, Therapy and Activities as needed to coordinate nutritional services.
· Provides in-service training when needed, to support delivery of care and services to meet regulatory compliance. In-service for Nursing Services provided no less than yearly.
· Demonstrates knowledge of Facility policies and procedures, stat/Federal/Local regulations, particularly in the area of nutritional services.
· Provides expertise to operations and containing costs and or productivity improvement while ensuring clinical services care standards are met.
· Provides quality guidance to operations in the implementation of new services or programs that impact quality of care and services, budgetary considerations and time frames.
· Participates in daily stand-up meetings.
· Supports positive and professional image through leadership activities that emulates the organization’s mission statement and encourages a spirit of cooperation and teamwork with co-workers.
· Ensures that all OSHA and safety standards are followed, as applicable to the position and in the business location or workplace in accordance with state and federal regulation and facility policies and procedures
· Maintains safe and clean work area and adheres to location/company safety standards for the health care professional.
· Complies with all infection control standards precautions and OSHA standards for the healthcare professional in accordance with state and federal regulation and facility policy and procedures.
· Adheres to facility protocols and department/company policy and procedures.
· Adheres to established HIPAA confidentiality standards of patient/resident and facility location information.
· Performs all other tasks and duties as assigned.
Compliance Responsibilities:
· Complies with applicable legal requirements, standards, policies and procedures including but not limited to those within the Compliance Process, Code of Conduct, HIPPA, and Corporate Integrity Agreement.
· Provides leadership and support for the Compliance Process within management area.
· Promotes adherence to applicable legal requirements, standards, policies and procedures as specified within the Compliance Process, Code of Conduct and HIPPA.
· Distributes compliance-related materials within management area.
· Ensures timely and accurate reporting and responses to compliance –related issues and monitors the implementation of courses and relevant policies and procedures and that such training is properly documented.
· Provides open lines of communication regarding compliance issues within management area.
· Participates in monitoring and auditing activities and investigations and implementing quality improvement processes as required.
· Participates in compliance and other required training programs.
· Prepares compliance reports as required.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Professional Experience/Educational Requirements:
· Minimum of two years’ experience in geriatric care and management.
· Excellent knowledge of skilled nursing regulations (federal/state/local), including interpretation and implementation.
· Excellent knowledge of the aging process and physical, psychosocial and social needs of the long-term care resident population in regards to nutrition.
· Average knowledge of MDS process.
· Food production management experience preferred.
· Bachelor’s degree in Dietetics.
Certification/Licensure:
· Must be registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registrations and be Licensed by the Ohio Board of Dietetics to work in Ohio.
