Registered Nurse Supervisor (RN) QUALIFICATIONS:
Must possess a RN or degree form an accredited college of School of Nursing. Must possess a current New York State license as a Registered Professional Nurse. (At least two years of clinical nursing experience and one-year geriatric experience)
GENERAL OBJECTIVES:
The primary function of the Registered Nurse Supervisor (RN) is to control unit operations and carry out any special tasks in the realm of your capabilities as directed by the Nursing Supervisor. Registered Nurse Supervisor (RN) SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Complete assessment to all residents quarterly and PRN such as: pain assessment, fall assessment and skin assessment.
· Perform dressing change including wound assessment and wound vac.
· Insert IV PRN
· Does treatments, dispenses medications, and performs other nursing functions as needed on a regular basis.
· Delegate these duties to another Nurse, LPN, assigned to your unit.
· Assign and supervise the activity of Nursing Assistants to assure that residents receive adequate assistance with personal hygiene and in carrying out activities of daily living.
· Assure that documentation regarding significant change in resident activity, eating habits, mental orientation, emotional status, and physical condition is made in resident medical record.
· Assure that physician orders are carried out.
· Secure the service of the residents’ attending physician when indicated.
· Assure that medication is being given as prescribed and according to nursing policy.
· Maintain and revise CCP as applicable, addressing problems, formulating approaches and developing goals. Complete sections of MDS as assigned by nurse supervisor.
· Inform the Physician orders are transcribed and carried out in a timely manner.
· Prepare the 24-hour report and present it to the Nursing Supervisor. Apprise the Nursing Supervisor of developments regarding residents’ condition.
· Develop and maintain a good working relationship with intra-department personnel as well as other departments within the facility to assure that nursing services and activities can be adequately maintained to meet the need of the resident.
· Assist in developing and maintaining nursing objectives and standards. Make written/oral recommendations to the Director of Nursing Services.
· Visit each resident at least twice during the work shift to assure that appropriate care is being rendered.
· Ensure that each resident’s right to fair and equitable treat, determination, individuality, privacy, property and civil rights, including the right to wage a complaint is followed by all personnel.
· Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive attitudes as well as a calm environment throughout the unit/shift.
· Assure that established infection control procedures and isolation techniques are followed at all times.
· Participate and assist in departmental studies and projects as assigned or that may become necessary.
· Exercise proper judgment; follow lines of communication within the framework of professional principles.
· Posses the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, resident/patient’s, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.
· Is knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to ling-term care.
· Possess leadership ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with the supervision of professional and non-professional personnel.
· The ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, procedures, etc., of the Nursing Service Department.
· Maintain the care and use of supplies, equipment, etc., and maintain the appearance of nursing areas, must perform regular inspections of nursing units for sanitation, order, safety and proper performance.
· Encourage and enforce safe work practices by staff training, proper role modeling, positive reinforcement, and correction of unsafe performance. Proper work procedures reinforced with warnings and notices, when appropriate.
· Utilize personal protective equipment to present chemical/infectious exposure. Utilize proper equipment and procedures to prevent accidents.
· Recognize potential hazards and implement safe procedures in the work area.
· Ability to use and has knowledge of oxygen, suction machines, wheelchairs, stretchers, etc., syringes and medications, audio-visual aides, clerical forms relating to nursing services.
· Conduct detailed incident/ accident investigations and complete documentation of specific incidences to identify root case and means for prevention.
· Identify, prevent and intervene appropriately in potential incidences of violence. Identify and demonstrate safe handling techniques of the unpredictable resident/patient.
· Knowledge and adherence to The Facility Sexual Harassment and Workplace Violence policies.
· Knowledge and adherence to The Facility Hazard Communication policies and is familiar with location of MSDS information pertinent to position held.
· Understand and report all resident/patient/family concerns or grievances in accordance with The Facility.
· Demonstrates knowledge, respect and sensitivity of resident’s rights as identified within the Resident Bill or Rights and facility policy and mission statement. Assures confidentiality of all resident information.
· Attends in-service education as required by position title.
· Performs related duties as required.
· As part of managements team, attends management meetings and other committees as directed by the Administrator/CEO, will rotate weekend administrative coverage, and perform other administrative task as directed by Administrator/CEO.
