About the Job
The Specialty Care Transport Nurse will utilize the nursing process and established best practices to assess, plan, evaluate and document nursing care of patients in both the out of hospital and interfacility environments. They will understand and apply specialized critical care principals and techniques including basic and advanced life support treatment.
Qualifications:Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
1.BSN.
2. Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification.
3. AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification.
4. NJ State Professional Registered Nurse License.
5. Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification. (Within 60 days of hire)
6. Valid Driver's License from a USA state.
7. Graduate of an approved School of Nursing.
8 Demonstrates the ability to successfully complete orientation and all associated competencies including but not limited to IABP, Impella, EVD, ventilator management.
Licenses and Certifications Preferred:
1. Prehospital Trauma Life Support Certification or Trauma Nursing Core Course Certification. (Within 60 days of hire)
2. Emergency Medical Technician Certification New Jersey. (Within 60 days of hire)
3. Neonatal Resuscitation Program. (Within 60 days of hire)
4. Mobile Intensive Care Paramedic Certification (MICP) or Mobile Intensive Care Nurse certification (MICN) required for 911/Advanced Life Support response only. Appropriate nursing candidates can be trained by EMS for the MICN if the MICP is not held by applicant.
Responsibilities:1. Collaborates and communicates with all members of the interdisciplinary team to provide a coordinated efficient method of conveying diagnosis, effects of treatment and results to patients and families.
2. Maintains a cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating information; responding to requests; building rapport; participating in team problem-solving methods.
3. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and participating in committee / council activities.
4. Delegates patient care activities to qualified, competent individuals while maintaining accountability and responsibility for patient care outcomes.
5. Participates in the collection, analysis, and application of performance improvement data.
6. Responsible for the safety of patients during transport between medical care facilities including provision of basic as well as advanced life support measures required to stabilize the critically ill or injured patient.
7. Promote patient awareness by establishing patient care goals, teaching patient and family regarding illness or disease process, treatment rendered while in care of SCTU.
8. Ensures the unit remains in a state of readiness in terms of mechanical reliability, medical supplies and equipment, cleanliness and appearance standards.
9. Collects health history data from patient, family, significant others and members of the health care team.
10. Performs assessments and utilizes critical thinking to identify biophysical, psychosocial, spiritual, environmental, educational needs of patients according to the patient's developmental and cultural needs.
11. Documents all data and findings in a consistent, comprehensive, and legible manner in accordance with hospital policy and regulatory agency requirements, on appropriate electronic charting system.
12. Signs all necessary documents by the end of assigned shift. Participates in unit specific QA/QI projects.
13. Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
