Job Description
The Registered Professional Nurse V will be responsible for leading and managing all assigned areas of Outpatient Clinics. This position is responsible for developing a philosophy of patient care that promotes excellent health care delivery, investigating alternative methods to improve operations, and fiscal responsibility. The position has explicit ownership/responsibility for outcomes and providing overall administrative management and support for evidence[1]based nursing practice. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate in formation needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his or her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed by the infant (0-1 year), child (2-10 years), adolescent (11-18 years), adult (19-64 years) and the geriatric (65 plus years) patient groups.
POSITION SUMMARY
- Coordinates and supervises the daily operations of the Outpatient Clinics, makes daily assignments and directs the daily activities of nursing and clerical staff.
- Organizes unit to maintain efficiency in operation and coordinates resources to accomplish objectives of the unit
- Determines necessary qualifications for positions within the Outpatient Clinics; selects and places appropriate individuals in roles/positions to accomplish unit and organizational objectives.
- Responsible for staffing schedule; communicates scheduling revisions and changes to all Outpatient Clinic staff.
- Implements improvement plans and new ideas within a multi-specialty clinic including strategic planning, staff development, quality improvement, and the coordination of multiple disciplines.
- Assures that decisions are made based on sound judgment and are compliant with all regulatory requirements, e.g., JCAHO, OSHA, etc.
- Supervises staff, conducts staff counseling and administers discipline to staff as necessary. Implement improvement plans and monitors the progress of staff.
- Develop and maintain clinical policy and procedures. Provides leadership, guidance and direction in implementing hospital policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Provides guidance for staff regarding ethical issues, formulates ethical decisions utilizing appropriate resources.
- Interviews, hires and orients personnel in the Outpatient Clinics.
- Objectively evaluates/documents performance of personnel and takes corrective action as appropriate.
- Maintains all standards required by accreditation agencies to deliver high quality health care.
- Works with the Assistant Hospital Administrator/Medical Group Practice Director and Clinic Manager to develop/modify supply, personnel, capital equipment and special program budget.
- Investigates cost reduction initiatives
- Facilitates the incorporation of patient safety and best practice principles into clinical nursing.
- Promotes safe, quality care based upon clinical conferences, new technology and changing practice.
- Leads/participates, as appropriate, in collaborative team approaches to developing and enhancing an integrated system of care
- Understands and complies with local, state and federal regulations and rule of other regulatory bodies, such as Joint Commission.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experience is credited based on a 40-hour workweek.
EDUCATION: Graduated from an accredited School of Nursing. While not required, graduation from an accredited nursing program with a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university is highly desired.
EXPERIENCE: One and one-half (1½) years of professional nursing experience.
SUBSTITUTION: Possession of a master’s degree from an accredited college or university school of nursing may be substituted for one year of nursing experience.
SUPERVISORY EXPERIENCE: Six (6) months of professional nursing experience which included: (1) planning and directing the work of others; (2) assigning and reviewing their work; (3) advising them on difficult problem areas; (4) timing and scheduling their work; and (5) training and developing employees.
QUALITY OF EXPERIENCE: Possession of the required number of years of experience will not in itself be accepted as proof of qualification for a position. The applicant's overall experience must have been of such scope and level of responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate that he/she has the ability to perform the duties of the position for which he/she is being considered.
CERTIFICATION: BLS is required one (1) month after appointment.
LICENSURE: License to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Hawaii.
