Position Title: RRT (Cardiopulmonary Department) Shifts Available: Day Shift & Night Shifts

Some notable information about the Unit:

• Specialties: Level 2 NICU, Pediatric ICU, Pediatric Oncology, Pediatric ER.
• Upcoming: Increase ER beds by 12, NICU and PICU transport teams, Level 3 NICU. Just west of hospital, 5K+ homes to be built in near future
• Active Florida RRT License required.

• 3 Years of Acute Care RRT NICU experience REQUIRED. 
• **MUST HAVE LEVEL 3 NICU experience
• Must have experience – Requiring RRT, but may be open to CRT for the right experienced candidate. 
• BLS required. ACLS, PALS and/or NRP must be obtained within 3 months of hire.

Job Summary: The Respiratory Therapist in the NICU provides specialized respiratory care to critically ill neonates and infants. The role involves performing assessments, administering respiratory treatments, and monitoring patient responses to ensure optimal respiratory function and support in a high-acuity environment.




Key Responsibilities:

1. Assessment and Evaluation:

• Conduct comprehensive respiratory assessments of neonates, including evaluation of breath sounds, oxygenation, and ventilation.
• Interpret diagnostic tests such as blood gas analyses, chest X-rays, and respiratory function studies.

1. Respiratory Care:

• Administer respiratory therapies including oxygen therapy, mechanical ventilation, CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure), and surfactant therapy.
• Manage and troubleshoot neonatal ventilators and other respiratory equipment.
• Perform intubation and extubation procedures following established protocols.

1. Patient Monitoring:

• Continuously monitor respiratory parameters and adjust treatments as needed.
• Document patient responses, treatment efficacy, and any changes in respiratory status in electronic health records.

1. Family Interaction:

• Educate and support families regarding their infant’s respiratory condition, treatment plan, and home care needs.
• Provide emotional support and address any questions or concerns from families.

1. Team Collaboration:

• Collaborate with neonatologists, NICU nurses, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement comprehensive care plans.
• Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and contribute to patient care decisions.

1. Quality and Safety:

• Adhere to infection control protocols and ensure patient safety at all times.
• Engage in quality improvement initiatives and stay updated with best practices in neonatal respiratory care.

1. Equipment Management:

• Ensure proper setup, calibration, and maintenance of respiratory equipment.
• Conduct routine checks and preventive maintenance to ensure equipment functionality and safety.

Qualifications:

• Education: Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy from an accredited institution.
• Licensure: Current Respiratory Therapist (RT) license in [State].
• Certification: National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) certification as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT). Neonatal/Pediatric Specialty Certification (NPS) preferred.
• Experience: Previous experience in a NICU setting preferred. Recent graduates with relevant clinical training may be considered.

• Expertise in neonatal respiratory care and understanding of common neonatal respiratory conditions.
• Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency with neonatal respiratory equipment and technologies.

• Ability to work efficiently in a high-pressure and fast-paced environment.

Working Conditions:

• May require standing for long periods, lifting and moving patients or equipment, and exposure to infectious diseases.
• Shifts may include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays depending on facility needs.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift and move patients or equipment weighing up to [X] pounds.
