The University of Chicago invites applications for the position of
Research Assistant Professor in the area of Climate Systems Engineering.
Appointment will be made in the Department of the Geophysical Sciences.
The University is building a world-leading Climate Systems Engineering
initiative with multiple academic hires addressing solar geoengineering,
open-system carbon removal such as enhanced weathering, and
interventions to limit loss of glacial ice.
The Research Assistant Professor will engage in translational research
that impacts the development and governance of climate engineering
technologies in the public interest under the guidance of the faculty
comprising the Executive Committee of the Climate Systems Engineering
initiative. The position is full-time, benefits eligible with an initial
term of up to three years, renewable. This is a career-track position
with possibility for promotion. Expected start date is in academic year
2024-2025.
Qualifications
Required:
- A Ph.D. in earth and environmental sciences or related field at the
start of appointment.
- A minimum of two years of related experience beyond Ph.D. training.
Preferred:
- Proven ability to do high-impact translational research.
- Proven track record of collaboration beyond Ph.D. discipline.
