JOB BRIEF
The United States Institute of Peace seeks a Research Assistant to provide research and writing support to the Center for Russia and Europe (CRE). Applicants must be organized, analytical, attentive to detail, excellent communicators, and able to work effectively in a highly collaborative environment.
Work Schedule: An average of 20 hours per week; up to 40 hours when school is not in session.
Work Location: This position is hybrid.
Expected Project Dates: September 2024 – September 2025
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supports CRE senior staff on research and writing to advance the center’s mission
- Interest in co-authoring articles and other research products
- Provides support for virtual and in-person (when possible) events
- Assists in the development and dissemination of other key products including Special Reports, blogs/articles, program descriptions by editing, verifying sources, etc.
- Uses language skills to translate and provide summaries of documents to support the Center for Russia and Europe’s written products and research and analysis
QUALIFICATIONS
- Current M.A. or Ph.D. student studying international relations, conflict resolution, history, political science, economics, or a related field.
- Level 3 proficiency in Russian language required. French and German language skills preferred.
- Demonstrates good organizational skills, can plan and prioritize own work and work of internal stakeholders.
- Strong writing, editing, and research skills, including qualitative methods.
- Demonstrates initiative and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong interpersonal skills.
- Must be a quick learner, well-organized, and attentive to detail.
- Must be able to multi-task and work under deadlines in a dynamic environment.
