The role is an interface between the research and education teams and leads efforts to integrate research and education staff and faculty. Using superior communication, problem-solving, analytical and data management skills, this role will work in partnership with the Director of Resident Research, department faculty, residents, medical students and staff to provide support through program coordination, project and data management.The education/research coordinator is a key member of the education team and supports PGY1 residents through the research curriculum and to completion of their first research project. This position will be performed in a hybrid work environment. Work is performed in a planned split between on-site and remote locations. The supervisor will determine the appropriate balance that meets the needs of the department and the other priorities for workplace flexibility. Major responsibilities of this position, with the percentage of time devoted to each: 70% Research Project monitoring 25% Research Regulatory support 5% Other administrative duties Research Project Monitoring: Provide research project support by working through the life cycle of a project from design, writing, submitting, follow up including tracking and reporting of updates Track progress of the research projects for the PGY1 residents Monitor a large and complex portfolio of research projects Create timelines, collaborate with the research director to assign and monitor work flow, and oversee all aspects of projects from development to completion. Assist with grant writing Facilitate manuscript preparation efforts, including revision and submission Liaison with research teams at Gillette Children's, TRIA Orthopedic Center, Regions Hospital, Hennepin County Medical Center and Minneapolis Veterans' Affairs medical center Collaborate with medical student clerkship director to monitor process for medical student research Partner with resident research director and research team to identify appropriate department and medical school resources, including connecting researchers with statistical and information technology support as needed Research Regulatory Support: Ensure overall regulatory compliance for a large and complex portfolio of research projects. Serve as the primary contact for the completion of required regulatory documentation, including preparation In collaboration with the PI, interpret study protocols and develop consent forms for any clinical research Maintain reporting system to track required documentation for each study to ensure compliance IRB Process support, including preparing and submitting IRB applications, modification and other internal documents Organize and contribute to PGY1 resident research curriculum Trainee onboarding, including verification of CITI training and orientation to department research process Other Administrative Duties: Provide cross-coverage, as needed. Qualifications *All required qualifications must be listed on your resume.* Required Qualifications: BA/BS degree plus at least 2 years of experience, or a combination of related education and work experiences to equal 6 years. Demonstrated strong communication, written, interpersonal, organizational, analytical and data management skills Ability to manage work amidst changing priorities and ambiguous environment Ability to work independently, make decisions, problem solve among multiple research projects, each with a different set of team members and leadership Demonstrated ability to analyze, design and ptimize complex processes Familiarity with health research, public health, health care delivery Proficient with various technology applications including MS Office (Word, Excel & PowerPoint), Internet applications, data entry, email, calendaring, database software Preferred Qualifications: Experience with grants, including technical writing and reviewing, budget development and reporting and reconciliation Experience with IRB submissions and IRB reporting requirements Experience with data management and statistical analysis Experience with MN GEMS grants management system Knowledge of University of Minnesota system About the Department To learn more about the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, please visit: med.umn.edu/ortho.
