About the Job
Azimuth Corporation is seeking a Research Physicist, in support of the Complex Electromagnetic Media (CEM) research group at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, OH. The ideal candidate will be a qualified research-grade postdoctoral candidate with experience in the areas of optics, photonics, and electromagnetics to join a vibrant and active research effort relating to simulation, design, fabrication and characterization of time-varying, active and/or non-linear metasurfaces and metamaterials.
Responsibilities for this role include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Exploration and design of metamaterials and metasurfaces for optical and radiofrequency (RF) communications
- Developing computational electromagnetics techniques to simulate, model and design of time-varying, active and/or non-linear metasurfaces and metamaterials
- Contribute to the fabrication and characterization of these novel materials/devices
Minimum Qualifications
- PhD degree in Physics, Optics, Materials Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a closely related science or engineering field.
- PhD entry level or 0-3 years of professional research experience post PhD.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an Active Security Clearance (U.S. citizenship required)
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in computational electromagnetics applied to RF antenna and/or metasurface design: the ideal candidate will have experience with computational electromagnetics modeling and simulation with a particular focus on temporally modulated RF antenna and/or metasurface design.
- Experience with COMSOL, Lumerical, and/or HFSS.
- Experience with the design, fabrication, and characterization of RF antennas and/or metasurfaces.
- Ability and desire to quickly learn new techniques, devise research plans, and develop expertise in technical topics related to photonics, optics, RF antenna design, and computational electromagnetics.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills as demonstrated by public presentations and peer-reviewed publications.
- Proficiency in advanced data analysis and visualization.
- Ability to work independently and in a group setting.
- Proficiency in Python; desired experience with scientific python packages including NumPy, SciPy, Matplotib, scikit, and pandas.
- Familiarity with or willingness to learn how to use Linux/Unix operating systems (e.g. Ubuntu, Red Hat) including the use of a terminal environment and bash scripting.
Physical Requirements / Travel
- Must be able to work in an office environment at a desk and computer.
- May travel ~10% to conferences, program reviews, industry meetings, or other collaborative events. Most or all travel would be CONUS.
