Residential Direct Support Professional (DSP)

Job Summary: We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Residential Direct Support Professional (DSP) to join our team. The ideal candidate will provide direct care and support to individuals with developmental disabilities living in our group home. This role involves assisting with daily living activities, promoting independence, and ensuring a safe and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Daily Living Support: Assist residents with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and meal preparation.
- Health and Wellness: Monitor the health and well-being of residents, administering medications and providing basic healthcare support as needed.
- Behavioral Support: Implement and follow individualized care plans and behavior support plans, promoting positive behavior and addressing challenging behaviors appropriately.
- Recreational Activities: Plan and participate in recreational and social activities, encouraging residents to engage in community outings and events.
- Household Management: Assist with household chores and maintenance tasks to ensure a clean and safe living environment.
- Transportation: Provide transportation for residents to appointments, activities, and community outings as needed.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of resident activities, behaviors, and any incidents, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and state regulations.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with other staff members, healthcare professionals, and family members to provide comprehensive care and support for residents.
- Advocacy: Advocate for the rights and needs of residents, promoting their independence and dignity.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: Previous experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred.
- Skills:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Compassionate and patient-centered approach to care.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Basic knowledge of healthcare practices and procedures.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Certifications: CPR and First Aid certification required (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a similar setting, such as a group home or residential care facility.
- Training in behavior management techniques.
- Bilingual.
Working Conditions:
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Physical ability to assist with lifting and moving residents.
- Ability to handle stressful situations and respond effectively in emergencies.
