The Retail Pharmacy Technician works under the direct supervision of a licensed Pharmacist. The Retail Pharmacy Technician assists the Pharmacist with providing medications to patients in a timely and accurate manner. The Retail Pharmacy Technician collects, prepares (including chemotherapy and other hazardous substances), and delivers medication orders as directed by the Pharmacist. The Retail Pharmacy Technician ensures sufficient and accurate drug and supply inventories; this is achieved by assisting with: inventory, receiving, verifying, storing of medications, processing credits, entering and transmitting drug orders, and processing of patient charges. Pharmacy Technician's work only under the supervision of a Registered Pharmacist.
Stocking and dispensing medications.
- Maintaining records by filing prescriptions.
- Monitoring inventory by sorting, stocking and labeling pharmacy shelves.
- Clearly communicating with customers and other healthcare professionals and, when appropriate, referring to the Pharmacist with any pharmaceutical questions.
- Complying with rules, regulations and procedures to maintain a clean and safe pharmacy.
- Communicating with patients to collect information about prescriptions and medical conditions or arrange consultations with the Pharmacist.
- Coordinate with insurance representative to process claims and calculate correct co-pay information for patients.
- Calculate dosages, fill prescriptions and prepare labels with accuracy.
- Has Pharmacist check all work before prescriptions are dispensed to the patient.
- Verifies name and address before giving medications to patients.
- Offers patient consultation for all first fill prescriptions.
- Follows HIPAA laws and maintains patient/employee confidentiality.
- Answers phone calls and addresses questions from customers and healthcare providers.
- Matches NDC number on stock bottle with NDC on label.
- Enters patient's information accurately into the pharmacy system, including but not limited to the patient's: address, phone number, allergies, and date of birth.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education: High school diploma or GED required.
Licensure: Current California Pharmacy Technician Certificate required.
Experience: Three (3) years' of experience in a retail pharmacy within the last 5 years. Has experience as an inventory expert. Has experience processing and communicating with pharmacy benefit managers, including submitting TAR's for Medi-Cal patients. Bilingual: English/Spanish preferred.
The hourly rate for this position is $28.32 - $31.23 The range displayed on this job posting reflects the target for new hire salaries for this position.
