Job Summary:
The Retail Store IT Technician is responsible for the maintenance and support of all IT-related systems and equipment within the retail store. This role ensures that all hardware (Registers, Registers’ Peripherals, Scales, Phone Systems, Printers, etc.), cabling, software, and networking systems function smoothly, allowing the store to operate efficiently. The IT Technician will troubleshoot issues, perform regular maintenance, and work with the IT department to implement new systems and updates.
Key Responsibilities:
- Technical Support:
- Provide on-site and remote technical support for all store employees, resolving issues with POS systems, scales, computers, printers, network devices, and other IT equipment.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot hardware and software problems, escalating complex issues to higher-level IT support when necessary.
- Assist with the setup and configuration of new hardware and software, ensuring compatibility with existing systems.
- Network Management:
- Monitor and maintain the store’s network infrastructure, including routers, switches, Wi-Fi, and security systems.
- Ensure network connectivity throughout the store, diagnosing and resolving connectivity issues as they arise.
- System Maintenance:
- Perform regular maintenance on store IT equipment, including software updates, hardware cleaning, and replacement of defective components.
- Manage and monitor system backups, ensuring that data is regularly backed up and can be restored in the event of a failure.
- Inventory Management:
- Maintain an inventory of all IT equipment and software licenses, ensuring that all equipment is properly documented and that licenses are up-to-date.
- Coordinate with the procurement team to order and replace IT equipment as needed.
- Security & Compliance:
- Implement and enforce IT security measures, including antivirus software, firewalls, and user access controls.
- Ensure that the store complies with all relevant IT policies and regulations, including data protection and privacy laws.
- Training & Support:
- Train store staff on the use of IT systems and equipment, providing guidance on best practices and troubleshooting techniques.
- Create and maintain user manuals and documentation for store IT systems.
Qualifications:
- Education & Experience:
- Some computer experience or degree in Information Technology or related field.
- 2+ years of experience in an IT support role, preferably in a retail environment.
- Experience with POS systems, network management, and troubleshooting hardware/software issues.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in Windows and macOS operating systems.
- Strong understanding of networking principles, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VPN.
- Familiarity with POS systems, inventory management systems, and retail software applications.
- Knowledge of IT security practices, including antivirus, firewalls, and data encryption.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical staff.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Customer service-oriented with a focus on delivering high-quality support.
Working Conditions:
- The role is Monday through Friday , however, may require occasional evening or weekend work to perform system updates or address critical issues.
- Physical requirements include the ability to lift and move IT equipment as needed.
