Position Summary
The Revenue Cycle Trainer is primarily responsible for conducting orientation and training for all Revenue Cycle employees, including but not limited to departmental policies/procedures, consent procedures, medical record data base, guarantor processing, insurance processing and Medicare/Medicaid specific issues. Training will also include managed care contracts and computer training on Revenue Cycle systems. The Revenue Cycle Trainer will also be instrumental in quality assurance functions and recommending both system and process enhancements to management. This will include utilizing denial data and identifying areas of opportunity for process improvement, as well as articulating issues and making recommendations for change.
The Revenue Cycle Trainer will incorporate appropriate updates to training programs as process changes occur and conduct regular in-services on revenue cycle enhancements. Individuals in this role must support on-going training initiatives throughout Revenue Cycle department and have a thorough knowledge of hospital and physician-based systems as well as Revenue Cycle policies and procedures. The Revenue Cycle Trainer must have an interest in designing training programs and in evaluating user performance. This individual must be self-directed and demonstrate the ability to manage workloads and competing priorities. The Revenue Cycle Trainer will cross train to perform other job functions within front and/or back end revenue cycle areas.
Responsibilities
1. Thoroughly educate and train new Revenue Cycle employees and provide on-going training opportunities for existing staff.
2. Evaluate newly hired employees during training for competence in job requirements. Follow up with the Manager of newly hired staff to ensure that competency checklists are completed 30 days from hire date.
3. Design and deliver educational programs, develop documentation and training materials, as well as define and evaluate competencies to support and improve patient account functions.
4. Assist with developing competency tools and proposing strategies for improving processes and implementation.
5. Provide feedback to new employee's supervisor regarding performance during training and orientation period.
6. Provide feedback to management team regarding potential changes or enhancements to improve staff performance and ensure work quality is has a positive impact on the revenue cycle and assist in the reduction of account receivables.
7. Conduct in-services for all Revenue Cycle employees on front and back-end systems.
8. Act as a support resource for all levels of staff in Revenue Cycle.
9. Develop and ensure Computer Based Learning (CBL) modules provide process and systems training and support initiatives for achieving Revenue Cycle goals.
10. Work with Managers to implement accountability models in order to identify and improve staff performance.
11. Maintain user training database, training schedule, class reminders, user evaluations and user key access.
12. Maintain quality assurance data base and provide monthly data related to process improvement.
13. Work with other Revenue Cycle team members to create and maintain departmental web site.
14. Access and distribute insurance carriers updates/bulletins and setup training for any immediate payor changes.
Minimum Requirements
High school graduate, Bachelor's Degree preferred.
5-7 years of experience within the Revenue Cycle.
Strong knowledge of front-end processing in multi-registration areas required.
Strong knowledge of back-end processes including billing, follow-up, denials, customer service, financial counseling and cash posting.
Excellent working knowledge of Patient Access and Revenue Cycle Accounting operations and applications.
In-depth working knowledge of Government, Managed Care, Commercial and Workers Compensation insurance carriers.
Knowledge of Epic system a plus
Highly effective communication, presentation and project management skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Confidence as a trainer in a classroom or large group setting.
Proficient experience in computer technology, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel
Strong training and evaluative skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
Must be able to work independently.
Must be responsible, accessible and visible to Revenue Cycle staff.
Demonstrate good decision-making skills.
Hospital and physician billing and collection experience preferred.
Develops appropriate training tools for staff education.
Must be able to function in a fast-paced environment.
Experience in defining medical terminology.
