About the Job
The Senior Engineer II will establish policies, procedures, and standards and is responsible for the activities related to an assigned organizational element, program, project, or task. Will normally plan, conduct, and supervise engineering design reviews and analysis assignments involving a major project or several smaller or less complex projects. Due to their complexity and difficulty, these projects require the fully competent application of conventional knowledge in a particular engineering or scientific field. Project work and assignments may be broad, requiring ingenuity and cross-functional coordination.

What You Will Do:
- Remains knowledgeable of new scientific methods and developments affecting the technical scope of assigned responsibilities and recommends changes in engineering processes and programs as warranted by such developments.
- Devises new approaches to problems encountered and recommends changes in methods, procedures, or design where necessary.
- Monitors the technical quality, content, consistency, continuity, and timeliness of action of all assigned projects within the Department.
- Applies intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of technical responsibility.
- Participates in the development and/or changes of Rules related to specific marine structures. Advises staff in applying Rules and Regulations within the project groups.
- Performs engineering reviews and analyses when necessary. Reviews other engineers' work and provides appropriate guidance and training when necessary.
- Prepares written responses to clients for review by Principal Engineer and/or immediate superior.
- Maintains liaison with other engineering specialists, internally and externally.
- Distributes work within an assigned group of engineers to use an individual's capability efficiently and effectively.
- Monitors the performance, development potential, and training needs of engineers assigned. Keeps Principal Engineer and/or immediate superior informed of manpower needs. Identifies appropriate training programs for developing the potential of subordinates.
- Assist Principal Engineer and/or immediate superior in developing qualification statements, proposals, bids, and other presentation materials.
- Promotes ABS Quality System within an assigned group of engineers.
Education and Experience
- B.S. degree in Civil, Structural Engineering, Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering or other related disciplines; M.S. is preferred.
- Minimum Fifteen (15) years of related engineering experience in a shipyard, design/consulting office, shipping/oil company, or a classification society; or three (3) years minimum as a Senior Engineer.
- Knowledge of related technical disciplines.
- Knowledge of applicable Rules and Regulations and the impact of Rule applications and interpretations.
- Knowledge of company business policies and procedures.
- The human relations skills necessary to maintain positive client contacts and provide leadership and
- Ability to identify, analyze and solve complex or unique engineering problems.
- Ability to undertake short- and long-term planning to provide for efficient and effective scheduling of work assignments.
- Ability to learn the ABS Health, Safety, Quality & Environmental Management System.
