JOB DESCRIPTION
SUMMARY
The Senior Cost Estimator is responsible for planning, coordinating and performing the cost estimating processes. This includes providing cost estimates from drawings of the customer part, determine the manufacturing method within the company's capabilities, estimating production times, tooling, operation routings and outside processing required.

REQUIREMENTS
4-year mechanical/industrial/ manufacturing engineering degree or a minimum of 8 years related experience. Prefer related experience to be in a machine shop utilizing CNC lathes, mills, EDM, grinding and other machine shop processes. Mental abilities are required to compute math formulas associated with engineering and machine tool programming. A cost estimator must be able to fully utilize commonly-used software for word processing and spreadsheets.

The cost estimator must estimate the production process for a customer’s part that is within the company's capabilities. As directed he/she will seek outside vendors to perform those processes beyond the company's capabilities. The cost estimator must create and maintain control over documents used in estimating. The cost estimator must provide management information used in cost estimating.

RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Develops, evaluates and improves cost estimating methods.
2. Confers with Engineering, Production, Quality Assurance, and/or customers regarding product designs, specifications and tooling to ensure understanding and accuracy in the estimation process.
3. Maintains the document control system that includes electronic files for estimating.
4. Specifies and recommends changes, modifications and updates required to improve the cost estimating process.
5. Confers with vendors as required to estimate tooling, materials and outside process costs and lead times.
6. Maintain quote response/contact within 24-48 hours of quote receipt.
