Job Description:
The Tony-award winning UTAH SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL, a professional theater company in residence at Southern Utah University, is accepting applications for Production Staff for the 2024 season. The Utah Shakespeare Festival will produce a six-show repertory season and three Green Shows across three venues in the summer/fall of 2025.
Employment dates are from late January to June 30th
Scenic Carpenter: Constructs and loads-in all scenic set elements for assigned productions. Completes shop improvement and organization projects as assigned.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret technical drawings from technical directors and assistant technical directors.
- Safely and efficiently build scenic elements for USF productions using wood, steel, foam, fabric, and other typical theatrical materials -Finish scenery surfaces in preparation for scenic artists.
- Move scenery and scenery related equipment to and from scene shop and theatrical venues.
- Install scenery in theatrical venues.
- Other duties and projects as assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Intermediate and advanced experience in proper and safe use of typical shop tools and equipment, wood and steel construction techniques or other related technical theater fields.
- Knowledge of safe operations of all tools and equipment used in typical theatrical construction and installation for wood and steel (personnel lifts, linesets, etc.)
- Must be able to carry 50 lbs. for 50 feet unassisted.
- Must be able to use ladders as a part of daily tasks.
