In order to be considered for employment, certain minimum requirements must be met. To be hired, applicants must be:
o at least 19 years old
o have a high school or equivalent diploma
o must reside in Ascension Parish
o must be a registered voter in Ascension Parish
Other factors which strongly influence the employment process are previous work experience, previous law enforcement experience, two years or more of college education, a clear driving record, no history of prior criminal activity, and a responsible credit history.
SUMMARY
Assists students and other pedestrians safely cross roadways by providing traffic control and direction using office approved traffic safety equipment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The most important and essential job function of the position is to have an attitude of service to others. Attitude is essential to maintain positive relationships with co-workers, respond professionally, calmly, and politely to members of the community, work as a team member, function under pressure, and respond in a professional manner to supervision. Other duties are listed below.
o Provide assistance to the public
o Foster positive relationships with members of the community
o Provide traffic control on roadways and at intersections and venues in a safe and efficient matter
o Maintain a presentable uniform in accordance with policy
o Other duties as directed by a supervisor
SUPERVISORY RESPONSONSIBILITIES
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or equivalent.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as Louisiana Laws, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and General Orders & Policy and Procedure Manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence as necessary.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of facts and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Current and valid Louisiana driver's license.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to stand on feet for extended periods of time, to walk moderate distances, endure inclement weather, stay alert, bend, stoop, lift small or light objects, communicate with supervisors and co-workers, communicate with the public and school personnel, and adhere to APSO policies and procedures
MENTAL STABILITY
The nature of this important public safety position requires that an employee maintain a high level of mental stability. The employee must demonstrate reasonable judgment in a variety of stressful and non-stressful situations.
The employee must maintain a positive attitude, positive interpersonal relationships, and be free from debilitating anger or hostility. There must be no evidence of problems with drugs, alcohol, or other addictive behavior or the necessity for psychotropic medications that would affect the employee's ability to perform the essential functions of this job.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work conditions are often on or near roadways which pose regular hazards associated with flowing traffic including moving vehicles, loud noises, road debris, vehicle exhaust, and other unpredictable conditions. Work is performed outside and may require performance in inclement weather conditions including wind, rain, extreme, or heat and cold.
