Job Description:
We are seeking a Scientist to join our Measurement Sciences team at the Plano Global R&D facility. The primary focus of this position is to perform biopolymer compound analysis, including testing for dietary fiber, beta-glucan, protein, and oil for client R&D and operations groups. The role involves accurately determining dietary fiber and beta-glucan content using established processes, standardized methods, and routine equipment operations. Additional responsibilities include troubleshooting instruments, recording and reporting data, and ensuring laboratory safety and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate with test requestors and managers to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Prepare and maintain chemicals, solutions, and equipment for analysis.
- Process samples (e.g., milling) for testing purposes.
- Follow standard operating procedures to determine dietary fiber, beta-glucan, protein, ash, fat, and moisture content.
- Document testing data in appropriate online systems and communicate results accurately and in a timely manner.
- Organize and purge samples on a regular basis.
- Follow Good Lab Practices (GLP) to ensure laboratory safety, instrument performance, and data quality.
- Assist managers in maintaining the lab, including conducting lab safety audits.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor s degree in chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Food Science, Material Science, or a related discipline with 2+ years of laboratory experience.
- Experience operating HPLC or IC is preferred.
- Basic understanding of food nutrients such as dietary fiber, beta-glucan, protein, and oil.
- Strong task prioritization and time management skills to meet deadlines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Excel, Word).
- Ability and willingness to learn new techniques and adapt to data recording platforms (e.g., LabVantage).
- Experience with Good Lab Practices (GLP) and hazardous chemical handling to maintain lab safety.
- Strong organizational skills, with an ability to keep neat and accurate records.
