Seasonal Parks Maintenance Laborer - City of Paducah

Under the general supervision of a Park Maintenance Supervisor. Performs various manual duties in the Parks Services; assists other personnel in performing job duties.

Illustrative Duties:

• Mowing and trimming of park areas.
• Assist in general upkeep of park and cemetery areas.
• Assists in maintaining public buildings, equipment, and grounds; performs various tasks (e.g., cleans offices and public restrooms, sweeps, rakes leaves, clears brush, shovels snow, spreads salt, etc.)
• Performs a variety of labor tasks to assist with departmental operations (e.g., runs errands, moves furniture, cleans, maintains, and performs minor repairs of equipment, picks up and delivers materials and supplies, carries tools, assists maintenance workers, operates a chain saw, etc.).
• Performs general work in support of special events, including maintaining athletic fields, installing road barricades, setting posts, covering fields, placing athletic equipment, and assisting in marking fields.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Must be 18 years of age. Possess a valid driver's license. Be able to follow oral and written orders. Be able to work well with co-workers and possess an interest in the outdoors and the care of park-type equipment. Working knowledge of tools, methods, and equipment used in building and grounds maintenance is preferred. High school diploma or G.E.D.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of laborer policies and procedures; ground maintenance methods; safety practices and procedures utilized in janitorial services; and basic work ethics. Ability to follow general oral and written instructions, maintain effective working relationships, handle simple public contacts, and must be able to work in a team environment. Must be skilled in operating and utilizing hand tools and motorized equipment.

Physical Ability Requirements:

Ability to perform heavy repetitive manual labor for extended periods. Ability to tolerate various temperatures and climates. Ability to operate internal radio system. Must maintain the physical requirements to successfully pass the Essential Job Function test as required for the position.
