Security Assistant - Hedgelan Consulting, LLC

Hedgelan Consulting is seeking a highly skilled Security Assistant to support background security checks for the US Geological Survey (USGS), Department of the Interior (DOI). This role focuses on personnel security and HSPD-12 badging, ensuring timely and accurate processing of security clearances.

**Note this position is NOT for physical security**

Key Responsibilities:

• Monitor and respond to inquiries from the Personnel Security Group email within 24 hours, providing guidance and clarity on unclear requests.
• Initiate Public Trust and National Security Clearance Investigations via e-QIP/eAPP for employees and contractors.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for security offices, guiding selectees and employees through the background investigation process.
• Track and maintain records of ongoing background investigations, including handling any issues with returned cases.
• Provide assistance and identify issues for resolution by the Security Management Branch regarding suitability factors and position sensitivity.
• Perform Registrar/Activator roles in USAccess and DOIAccess, including identity proofing, card activation, PIN resets, and certificate updates.
• Liaise with agencies such as the DCSA and DOI’s Office of Law Enforcement and Security to support the Bureau’s security administration.
• Ensure compliance with NIST and federal policies and recommend improvements for HSPD-12 and personnel security programs.
• Provide statistical reports, resolve security issues, and assist with project work related to PIV cards, including the V8.1 card transition.

Requirements:

• Active Tier-4 security clearance.
• Proficiency with USAccess, e-QIP, and DCSA systems.
• Knowledge of federal security laws, regulations, and DOI policies.
• Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat.
