Purpose Statement/Position Summary: The Senior Associate Director is a key member of the Foundation Relations team, responsible for establishing long-term relationships with local, regional and national private foundations and public charities. This fundraiser identifies and evaluates prospects, implements cultivation and solicitation strategies; writes proposals, LOIs and other solicitation materials, and provides a high-level of donor stewardship. The fundraiser also builds strong and collaborative relationships hospital-wide with faculty and staff to advance the hospital’s fundraising priorities. Reporting to the Associate Senior Vice President of Foundation Relations, the fundraiser manages a portfolio of 60+ institutional prospects and contributes to a dynamic fundraising team.
Minimum Qualifications/Work Experience: Minimum 5+ years of qualified experience working in a fast-paced environment while managing a complex, multi-faceted and detailed workload. Professional experience in philanthropy, academia, or other relevant experience, preferably in health care or higher education. Exceptional ability to communicate persuasively, both orally and in writing. In addition, expertise in customer relations leadership and inter-personal communication. Past engagement in grants production is essential. Ability to write clear, structured, and persuasive proposals and other materials. Excellent interpersonal skills required to relate to faculty, donors, prospects and colleagues at all levels and work well as a member of a team. Highly organized, self-motivated, adaptable and able to prioritize independently. Must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle a considerable amount of detail accurately and manage multiple projects. Professional and personable demeanor a must. Experienced assimilating complex information and communicating key points to target audiences. Successful record establishing and maintaining professional relationships with internal and external constituents and stakeholders. Self-starter who works well independently and collaboratively to achieve common goals. Outstanding organizational skills and proficiency in managing concurrent priorities, projects, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Strong ability to think strategically and creatively with meticulous attention to detail and accuracy. Highly motivated individual with the drive to achieve and exceed ambitious fundraising goals.
Other Responsibilities:
• Manages a portfolio of local, regional and national foundation prospects.
• Initiates the full range of activities to build philanthropic relationships and secure major gifts/grants.
• Researches and evaluates foundation prospects for alignment with the hospital’s strategic priorities and resource needs.
• Develops and implements donor-specific engagement strategies and tactics to advance philanthropic relationships and giving potential.
• Provide guidance to faculty and staff about the philanthropic priorities and strategies of foundations.
• Solicits five and six-figure commitments from foundations within assigned portfolio.
• Fosters strong donor relationships through regular communication and effective stewardship activities.
• Maintains an active calendar of prospect visits and outreach activities.
• Records and maintains accurate prospect opportunities, contacts, actions, proposals and stewardship reports in the donor database.
Education/Licensure/Certification: College degree or equivalent experience required. Prefer experience in fundraising or non-profit organizations or coursework in journalism, communications or business or equivalent experience.
