Northern Star Scouting seeks a Senior Development Director to join our Development Team! In this critical role, you will provide leadership to three Development Directors and a Development Assistant with responsibility for building, promoting and managing a number of Northern Star fundraising programs, including our Annual Campaign. You will recruit, train and lead a team of engaged Scouting volunteers to achieve fundraising goals.
This is a full-time, exempt position with a starting annual salary of up to $90,000, depending on qualifications. We offer paid time off (equivalent of 16 days annually for new hires) and 11 annual holidays. This position is located at our Fort Snelling campus, near the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport.
Responsibilities
- Team Leadership: Lead a team of four, with responsibilities for special fundraising events, mid-level gifts, matching gifts, donor stewardship communications, direct mail solicitations, and workplace giving.
- Annual Campaign: Organize, plan and manage the Annual Campaign, working with and providing leadership to a team of committed Scouting volunteers.
- Donor Relationships: Serve as relationship manager for up to 50 key donors. Utilize the "Moves Management Process" to maintain and enhance the experience of select donors and prospects within your portfolio.
- Relationship Building: Embrace and carry to others the philosophy and mission of Northern Star Scouting. Network in the community to identify Scouting advocates, build new relationships, and recruit new donors and volunteers.
Qualifications
Education and experience:
Minimum of a four-year bachelor's degree. Minimum of 3-5 years of building/ managing annual campaign program, proven record securing and cultivating $5,000+ gifts or equivalent. 1-2 years of experience with donor communications; sales management and campaign experience. Ability to develop and write solicitation and grant proposals. Proven volunteer recruitment skills. Ability to interface with Northern Star Scouting leaders, team members and board members, Scouting volunteers and top corporate and community leaders. Business/management experience, including budget, supervisory, and program development/implementation. Organizational skills and proven ability to work with minimal supervision.
Software: Experience with Microsoft Office products required, including advanced knowledge of Excel and Access. Proven ability to utilize analytical software to construct models, manipulate data, and draw conclusions that can be turned into action.
Interpersonal skills: Must be able to work independently as well as cooperatively and demonstrate a positive attitude. Must enjoy working with people and be an active team player. Effective interpersonal communications and customer service skills are needed to work with co-workers and volunteers. Ability to communicate plans effectively to staff and provide leadership to plan development. Provide indirect staff leadership and development expertise to non-fundraising staff.
