Position Summary
Reporting to the VP, Head of Health Equity, the Senior Director, Strategic Integration and Support lead is a pivotal role responsible for driving the development and execution of strategic integration related to health equity.
The lead is responsible for developing, refining and executing the priorities for how we will embed principles across functions, collaborating across business units and markets in addition to external stakeholders / partners. This role will build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders, and external organizations, in particular community groups, to achieve BMS’ health equity goals and drive patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Priority Refinement and Action Planning
- Refine, articulate, and operationalize our strategic priorities by embedding business imperatives across functions thorough assessment of needs and barriers for each priority, aligned with BMS’ overarching health equity strategy.
- Work with cross-functional partners, Business Insights and Analytics, and Finance to develop and/or pressure-test business cases for embedding strategic principles throughout the organization
- Collaborate with teams to develop cross-functional action plans and functional goals for execution, serving as an orchestrator. Ensure all action plans are aligned with company’s overall mission, strategy and business objectives.
- In action plans, assess opportunities to reprioritize efforts, making recommendations to teams for redeploying resources to most impactful initiatives.
- Stay informed about emerging trends, research, and best practices in health equity, updating the enterprise health equity strategy in line with most-recent internal and external developments.
- Regularly review and work with teams to update action plans to reflect evolving priorities and emerging opportunities.
Internal engagement and governance
- Facilitate and orchestrate cross-functional collaboration to leverage diverse expertise and resources, ensuring synergies across functions. Support teams in identifying gaps and overcoming barriers in execution.
- Establish governance structures (e.g., core teams & milestones) and metrics to ensure effective execution.
- Support teams in identifying opportunities to enhance efforts and redeploy resources.
- Lead engagement with internal partners, including other Health Equity teams, to execute action plans.
Community outreach and external partnership building
- Identify optimal external partners and community organizations to drive strategic focus areas and priorities.
- Develop and implement strategies for engaging external partners (e.g., ATOM coalition) and community organizations in line with action plans.
- Work closely with internal BMS stakeholders (e.g., marketing excellence, I&D council, patient advocacy groups, policy, government affairs) to build and maintain strong relationships with community groups and stakeholders.
- Define approaches to measure impact of community partnerships, and regularly engage with partners and functional teams to ensure expectations and outlined outcomes are met.
External Communications and ESG Collaboration
- Partner with the ESG Communications team and other relevant functions to design and implement external communication strategies. Support Comms in developing content that highlights the company’s health equity strategies, initiatives, and outcomes, maximizing impact with external audiences.
- Ensure consistent and transparent communication with external stakeholders, coordinating outreach efforts across functions to ensure a cohesive, consistent and strategic approach to community engagement.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree is a plus.
- 10+ years progressive experience in healthcare, public health, or a related field, with at least three years in roles focused on health equity.
- Strong understanding of health disparities, social determinants of health and health equity principles.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience in using data to drive decision-making.
- Proven ability to develop and implement effective health equity initiatives that drive the patient outcomes.
- Proven ability to influence stakeholders at all levels, internal and external.
- Ability to translate complex ideas gleaned from analyses into clear, compelling, and actionable insights through written narrative.
- Calm and cool under pressure. Attention to detail is critical.
- Strong, reliable judgement in handling sensitive content.
- Proven ability to think strategically, listen and learn proactively, take initiative, and constantly seek ways to innovate and do things better.
