Position Summary The Senior Industrial Hygienist is an on-call/network role: the incumbent will support various divisions within Witt O’Brien’s and Ambipar Response as needed. Incident response activities will often drive work under this role. The Senior Industrial Hygienist will perform and/or manage personnel performing industrial hygiene activities, including qualitative and quantitative IH/safety surveys, air sampling/monitoring, noise, and indoor air quality surveys. Industrial hygiene activities may include conducting air sampling, noise surveys, review of Safety Data Sheets (SDSs), and preparation and/or review of site-specific health and safety plans. The Senior Industrial Hygienist may serve as a project manager, expert witness, or project technical director based on project needs and resources. Utilizing knowledge of various scientific disciplines, the Senior Industrial Hygienist may collect, study, report, and take action based on data derived from measurements or observations of air, food, soil, water, and other sources. The successful candidate will apply the scientific methodology for analysis of risk assessments and industrial hygiene applications to ensure client expectations are met. A successful candidate will be able to provide training to junior industrial hygienists and environmental scientists as needed. Position Details Reports to: Managing Director, CS Emergency Management Position Location: Remote Position Type: Full-Time FLSA Status: Exempt Pay: Hourly Compensation: Commensurate with experience Travel: Globally as per project requirements or client request Essential Job Functions Perform industrial hygiene activities, including, but not limited to, qualitative and quantitative IH/safety surveys, air sampling/monitoring, noise surveys, review/preparation of SDSs, preparation and/or review of site-specific health and safety plans, indoor air quality surveys, expert witness, and preparation/review of project technical reports. Provide data management and evaluation support to fellow Witt O’Brien’s staff in the areas of IH, toxicology, litigation support, risk assessment, and emergency response. Perform and/or manage personnel who will perform industrial hygiene activities including qualitative and quantitative IH/safety surveys, air sampling/monitoring, and noise and indoor air quality surveys. May serve as a project manager or project technical director, based on project needs and resources. Utilizing knowledge of various scientific disciplines, may collect, study, report, and take action based on data derived from measurements or observations of air, food, soil, water, and other sources. Apply the scientific methodology for analysis of risk assessments and industrial hygiene applications to ensure the client's expectations are met. May provide training to junior industrial hygienists and environmental scientists as needed. Perform duties safely to minimize threats to self and others in work settings with potential chemical, physical, biological, and safety hazards. Understand and communicate to staff the basic industrial hygiene concepts of anticipating, recognizing, evaluating, and controlling hazards to workers, the general public, and the environment. Solve problems and make accurate and informed decisions regarding IH and safety. Compile, review, and summarize scientific/technical data and literature. Support other service areas as assigned. Perform all duties according to the ethics of the IH profession. Demonstrate a professional attitude toward clients, customers, and co-workers which reflects favorably upon the company. Perform such other duties as assigned. Minimum Job Requirements 5-10+ years of relevant work experience in the field of industrial hygiene, including responsibility for managing IH staff Bachelor’s degree in industrial hygiene or safety; or, Bachelor’s degree in a related science field (chemistry, biology, physics, engineering, toxicology, etc.) Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) Certification Advanced computer and data management skills to include MS Office 365, Teams and SharePoint Current driver’s license Ability to obtain a passport Completion of all job-specific OSHA training Ability to comply with all job-specific OSHA requirements, including wearing a respirator Physical Job Requirements Sitting, standing and walking Lifting up to 50 pounds several times a day Overhead lifting of over 20 pounds Bending, stooping, climbing ladders, and crawling Long hours involving overtime and weekends as necessary Keyboarding/typing Ability to read effectively from a computer screen, sampling device, and/or a paper copy Ability to handle a large volume of work and perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment Able to assist with unscheduled travel for extended periods of time when on call Wear half-face and full-face air-purifying respirators (APR) as well as supplied air respirators in the form of Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and hose supplied respirators with medical clearance as required under 29CFR 1910.134 Wear partially or totally encapsulating personal protective equipment Encounter environments presenting physical hazards of uneven ground, standing water, ditches, dusty conditions, rapidly moving transportation and remediation equipment, and physical stress associated with the wear of personal protective equipment May work at altitudes greater than 5000 feet above sea level May work on land, sea, or air May work in a setting with potential physical and chemical hazards Preferred Job Requirements HAZWOPER Certification (Can be obtained post-hire) DISA clearance (Can be obtained post-hire) Job Description Disclaimer This position description incorporates the core responsibilities of the job.
