Job Purpose
The Senior Inventory Accountant will lead the PS&P BU's inventory accounting and costing functions, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting. This role will be responsible for managing inventory accounting for finished goods in multiple factories. They will partner with teams across the organization, including Procurement, Production, and Finance, to optimize inventory processes and resolve any inventory-related concerns. Due to these partnerships this role requires more years of experience and often has some supervisory responsibilities with project management.
The Senior Inventory Cost Accountant will monitor and analyze inventory data to identify trends and variances while providing business insights to various internal stakeholders. They will be responsible for the monthly financial closing process, making improvements along the way. As well as lead the preparation for the annual physical inventory audit and it’s resulting inventory valuation calculations in conformity with IFRS accounting principles. This role also has a great deal of autonomy in decision making and use of professional judgement.
Key Accountabilities
• Analyze inventory transactions, trends, and results: perform variance analysis (Monthly, Quarterly, Annually and BIM), summarize the results, report to Accounting and Operations Management, and provide recommendations for improvements
• Lead Physical Inventory Activity, Data, & Systems: Project leadership through facilitation, coordinate, prepare and implement the annual Physical Inventory audit and valuation processes
• Conduct monthly analysis and reporting of inventory and product costing.
• Assist in month-end closing: prepare journal entries and monthly reports
• Decision support for any financial aspect of inventory cost management
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
Required Work Experience:
• 5+ years in accounting or finance with experience in inventory costing
Required Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance/Accounting
Desired Skills:
• Analytical, organizational, problem solving, self-starter with excellent communication skills
• Experience with data structure (Essbase and SAP/BPC)
• Skills in Microsoft Office with emphasis in Excel and PowerPoint
• Ability to apply accounting theory (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)) to transactions
• Ability to adjust and work effectively in a dynamic, changing environment
