This role is responsible for providing technical governance and direction as Subject Matter Expert in the field of Mechanical Building utilities for capital construction projects. The Senior Manager, Mechanical Utilities is accountable for ownership of critical mechanical central utility Standard Design Platforms (SDP) for chiller, boiler, and air compressor plants.
A suitable candidate for this role will have knowledge and eagerness to learn, collaborate with business partners, and identify new technologies to aid in the delivery of capital projects. This individual must have domain expertise in central plant design, energy optimization, and automation with experience in GxP environments, C&Q/validation with strong project and Construction Management skills.
Key relationships include working with E&PS stakeholders, and customers, J&J Quality, Procurement, EHS&S, Risk Management, to align on new innovations for incorporation into the Standard Design Platform (SDP) and to implement by providing technical direction to project teams and operating company standards and guidelines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develops, shares and maintains worldwide J&J engineering standards for design, construction, operation and maintenance of Chiller, Boiler and Compressed Air Central Utility Plants.
- Serves as a focal point for industry and J&J internal engineering expertise in facility construction.
- Recommends standard solutions that increase the speed of project delivery and ultimately the delivery of J&J's final product to the patients.
- Updates and optimizes design, program, processes and/or technical platform to meet current and future needs.
- Supplies regulatory and J&J compliant solutions for manufacturing and research facilities.
- Develops innovative technology strategies in the areas of energy conservation and sustainability.
- Drives the selection and engagement of design and application engineering partners and manages their performance (e.g. A&E firms, suppliers, consultants, etc.).
- Understands and integrates the requirements of J&J's Project Management, Procurement, Legal, Quality and Safety organizations.
- Plans and/or verifies, and controls mechanical utility project and/or program costs and schedules.
- Facilitates the leveraging of J&J's buying power through standardization and supplier agreements
- Reviews and analyses complex specifications and engineering packages
- University/Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Engineering from an accredited institution required.
- MBA or Master's degree in a technical field preferred.
Required:
- Minimum of eight to ten (8-10) years of relative technical experience.
- Prior experience in Design and optimization of mechanical central utility plants.
- Prior experience working on capital construction project teams.
- Prior experience working in a health care manufacturing or research environment (Pharmaceuticals and/or Medical Device).
- Working knowledge of commissioning & qualification standard methodologies and FDA validation.
- Knowledgeable in construction practices, and the nuances of working with construction managers, design engineering firms, contractors and consultants.
- Experience in leading groups and developing individuals without direct line management responsibility.
- Professional Engineering (P.E.) License.
- Accreditation as a Certified Energy Manager (CEM).
- LEED Certification.
- Experience as an Application, Optimization, Reliability and/or Design Engineer.
- Experience in Facility Maintenance and/or Manufacturing operations.
- Experience in Vendor Contract Management.
- Experience leading people.
- Travel: This position will require up to 50% domestic and international travel.
- Language Proficiency: English
- The anticipated base pay range for this position is $118,000 to $203,500.
