This is a remote position. Substantial travel to the Washington, DC area and to our Headquarters in Maryville, TN is required. Approximate domestic travel between 50% and 75%.
Position Overview:
This role will operate in general support of the law enforcement sales team as part of the Global Professional & International Sales Department. The Manager of Professional Business Development & U.S. Government Sales is responsible for finding and/or developing new strategic sales opportunities nationwide and will serve as the account manager for all U.S. federal law enforcement and military organizations. Opportunities may be at the municipal, state and/or federal levels and will be of strategic value. As part of this process, this position will make recommendations and plans to grow S&W brands within the law enforcement and military channels. Local and state law enforcement opportunities, once identified and fostered, will be passed to the appropriate law enforcement district sales manager to accomplish tactical activities and sales closure, however, will retain responsibility for their own tactical execution of all federal activities (law enforcement and military).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
* On a rotating basis, and in close coordination with the LE National Sales Manager and the regional LE DSM, call on off-cycle AA Tier law enforcement customers to develop business and drive demand for S&W products.
* Maintain close ties with purchasing, contracting and/or acquisitions organizations within all federal law enforcement and military organizations and drive demand for S&W products.
* For federal opportunities, make product presentations, and supervise technical services such as firing demonstrations, and/or operator's /armorer's training courses.
* Act as program manager for all proposals for federal LE and U.S. military sales opportunities, to include Foreign Military Sales (FMS).
* Working closely with the New Product Development team, effectively communicate customer requirements regarding product specifications to align S&W products with customer needs.
* Transfer bona fide sales opportunities with local and state law enforcement to the owning LE DSM to conclude tactical activities leading to sales closure and after sales support actions.
* Ensure compliance with contracts for all government programs.
* Gain and maintain effective relationships with distributors, customers and other corporate, cross-functional departments. Must establish and maintain rapport and communication, provide timely replies to all correspondence, and be able to interact and work effectively with personnel throughout the organization.
* Assist with planning and execution of, and attend, relevant trade shows within the territory.
* Generate and analyze reports regarding ordering trends, forecasts, market share, addressable market and other metrics as may be required to support annual and strategic sales objectives.
* Suggest and execute special programs and promotions for federal customers, including review of potential costs and benefits related to program, communication between customers and internal departments.
* Work with customers and the finance department regarding credit status and accounts receivable.
* Approximate domestic travel between 50% and 75%.
* Ensure compliance with all internal and U.S. Government regulations concerning international commerce of firearms, spare parts and accessories including but not limited to: International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Export Administration Regulations, INCO Terms, Bureau of Industry and Security Regulations, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and Security and Exchange Commission Regulations within areas of responsibility.

Education and Experience:
* Bachelor's degree or equivalent related job training and experience.
* Military and/or law enforcement acquisitions/contracting experience strongly preferred.
* Minimum 3 years defense industry government sales and/or government procurement experience required.
Competencies and Skills:
* Good command of the English language in both verbal and written communication.
* Exceptional skills in MS Office Suite -- Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point.
* Knowledge of federal program management and contracting procedures.
* Excellent organizational skills and ability to operate independently to meet sales goals with limited supervision.
* Must have knowledge of small arms and tactical small arms employment.
Physical Demands:
* Extended time in sitting position, prolong use of computer and possible eye strain.
* Works in the field: Approximate domestic travel between 50% and 75%.
* Able to lift and move up to 25 pounds occasionally.
* Able and willing to travel a majority of the time.

Within the Smith & Wesson manufacturing facility, employees may be exposed to manufacturing noise, airborne liquid chemicals, fine particulate dust, ambient temperatures, and industrial lighting. May be exposed to excessive noise, temperatures, hazards associated with working around moving machinery, work in confined quarters, exposure to vibrations and shop lighting, continuous exposure to hot temperatures, may be humid, odors, dust, continuous exposure to mechanical hazards, and occasional exposure to chemical hazards.
The following Personal Protective Equipment is required: Safety glasses with side shields and hearing protection required when on manufacturing floor.
The use of additional personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required when a job task(s) is being completed in or around your assigned department or in another department, this includes safety eyewear, hearing protection, and safety footwear.
