Senior Mechanical Engineer - Verterra Energy
New Brighton, MN
About the Job
At Verterra Energy, we're on a mission to harness the power in the world's rivers, canals and oceans. To accomplish this, we are commercializing our first device called VOLTURNUS, a pioneering water-power technology that deploys in harmony with the current to capture baseline, zero emission electricity. Backed by top-tier investors and a multi-year contract with the Department of Defense, we are growing our team to help achieve our mission.
We're seeking a mechanical engineer with a background in subsea engineering. This role will lead the development of technologies that will be used in the deployment, operation and retrieval of Verterra Energy's modular hydropower technology, and peripheral systems.
We are looking for individuals who can hit-the-ground-running and execute on their own as well as being a part of a growing team.
Candidate Profile
Verterra Energy is looking for a senior mechanical engineer who can combine a comprehensive understanding of the product development process with a passion for solving challenging problems in challenging environments. In this position, the Senior Mechanical Engineer will contribute to numerous phases of product design, development, prototyping, manufacturing and operational support. This position will play a critical part in Verterra Energy’s novel modular hydropower technology development process and will transition successful concepts through prototyping and into production.
The successful candidate will be responsible for component and subsystem mechanical design and engineering, analysis, validation and performance testing, systems integration, part prototyping, assembly, along with on-site installation, in-field commissioning and operation, and related activities.
Verterra Energy is looking for a team member who is passionate not only about solving complex problems with their mechanical engineering experience and skill, but is also capable of creatively solving the complex electrical engineering challenges related to hydrokinetic energy. The right candidate will have an inherent ‘willing to learn’ attitude that is demonstrated by embracing the philosophy of life-long learning.
The ideal candidate will have practical experience with product development processes for mechanical systems and possess a curious and thoughtful mind with a passion for engineering, a strong “hands-on” mechanical aptitude and can quickly adapt to evolving timelines and objectives.
