Position Overview:
As a Senior Tax Accountant, you will play a key role in the tax department by providing high-level tax services to individuals, businesses, and organizations. You will have the opportunity to work closely with clients to ensure compliance with federal and state tax regulations, while also advising them on tax-saving strategies and planning for the future.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and review individual, corporate, partnership, and trust tax returns, ensuring compliance with IRS and state tax laws.
- Provide tax planning and advisory services to clients, focusing on maximizing tax savings and minimizing liabilities.
- Research complex tax issues and provide guidance on various tax strategies, including but not limited to business structuring, estate planning, and tax credits.
- Manage and supervise the work of junior staff, providing coaching and mentorship as needed.
- Review client financial statements and reconcile accounts for tax purposes.
- Work directly with clients to gather financial information, provide regular updates, and address any questions or concerns regarding tax matters.
- Assist clients with audits, including correspondence with tax authorities and representation if necessary.
- Stay current with changes in tax laws, regulations, and industry trends to ensure clients are in compliance and making the best tax decisions.
- Participate in firm-wide initiatives to improve processes and increase efficiency
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA certification is required.
- 3-5 years of public accounting experience, with a focus on tax compliance and planning.
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
- Proficiency with tax preparation software (e.g., ProSystem FX, CCH Axcess, GoSystem, etc.).
- Excellent research skills and the ability to interpret complex tax laws and regulations.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex tax concepts to clients.
- Leadership and mentoring experience is a plus.
- Experience with business taxation, including corporate tax returns, partnerships, and LLCs, is highly desirable.
