Server Engineer at TEKsystems

Description:

Industrial IT Server Engineers design, implement, maintain, and optimize our Windows-based virtual Digital Enablement Platform (DEP) environments. Additionally, Engineers will be expected to work in the office and provide support to customers (including on-call rotations 12-hour shift during day for a week at a time). The ideal candidate will possess expertise in VMware virtualization, DELL computer hardware, performance monitoring tools like SolarWinds, Active Directory administration, and strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with both customers and cybersecurity partners.

Responsibilities:

• 1) Manage and support Windows virtual machines: insuring optimal performance, security, and availability.

• 2) Utilize VMware for environment virtualization, configuring, and maintaining virtual infrastructure.

• 3) Provide technical support and troubleshooting for DELL computer hardware

• 4) Perform performance monitoring, analysis, and reporting using SolarWinds or similar tools

• 5) Administer and maintain Active Directory services, including user/group management and access controls.

• 6) Collaborate with customers and cybersecurity partners to address technical issues and implement solutions.

• 7) Develop and maintain documentation for server configurations, procedures, and “best practices".

**This position is in office - NOT REMOTE. Expectation is to work in office with typical hours being 7am - 4pm and on call rotation

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

Besides day-to-day server health monitoring, we are also involved in new site rollout, expansion/upgrade of existing infrastructure and troubleshoot issues with vendors & onsite engineers. Systems Admin role will help Test & certify new products in the lab, develop associated design, installation, operation, planning & upgrade documents for the product will be part and parcel of the role. Playing a leading role in a project is not unusual.

Role and Responsibilities

• Server Work: The role involves building, troubleshooting, and supporting servers, often located in remote or challenging environments such as ships or field locations. This includes:

o Building Servers: Setting up and configuring new servers.

o Troubleshooting Servers: Diagnosing and resolving issues quickly to minimize downtime.

o Support: Providing support to business users, including resetting specific server-related passwords that cannot be handled by the help desk.

• Technical Skills: Key skills required for the role include:

o Windows VMs: Proficiency in managing and utilizing Windows Virtual Machines.

o VMware: Experience with VMware for virtualization purposes.

o Dell Hardware: Familiarity with Dell server hardware, including installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

o Active Directory Administration: Skills in managing Active Directory, including user and group management.

o Reporting Tools: Experience with tools like SolarWinds for monitoring and reporting on server performance and issues.
