Job Description:
The Service Engineer position is responsible for all aspects of mechanical engineering work for the Service Coordination Department. Will design solutions for customer's existing equipment, including retrofitting of new parts and incorporating into existing machine systems. Service Engineer will retrieve old blueprints of machines that were designed by hand and redraw using 3D or 2D modeling software. The Service Engineer will consult Service Technicians and advise on possible engineering solutions. The Service Engineer will assist with quoting service jobs and will inspect incoming parts for conformance to specifications.

- Use SolidWorks or other 3D modeling software (or 2D) chosen by the company, design machines and machine systems, foundations, machine layouts, subassemblies, parts list drawings, detail drawings, etc. in accordance with purchase order, customer specification, Automatic Feed machine design standards; federal, state and local codes and regulations; voluntary compliance standards, ISO 9001:2015 quality system, and accepted machine design principles and practices. A review of reference jobs and other historical data might be applicable.
- Responsible to meet or beat budgeted hours and to complete the job efficiently, and under budget.
- Perform stress and deflection calculations, strength of materials, motor sizing calculations, velocity timing and calculation of loads (bearings, gears, rolls, frames, etc.). Include a complete set of load calculations with each new design for design documentation. List reference job if new calculations are not needed.
- Create a bill of materials for the assigned job.
- Complete all necessary specification, function and check sheets for the machine.
- Upon completion of work, release jobs to the shop completely, accurately, and on time.
- Use Engineering Change / Deviation Request (Form ME001) when applicable.
- Record all time worked into Encompix, the Enterprise Resources Planning (ERP) system.
- Responsible to achieve a high percentage of "direct" time and to minimize "indirect" time.
- Field and Receiving Inspection Job Duties
- Work with engineering and purchasing departments to follow up on technical purchases.
- Immediately inspect incoming technical parts for accuracy before they are released for storage.
- Put Hold Tags on non-conforming part received and expedite correction.
- Make sure incorrect parts are corrected by suppliers quickly at our supplier's warrants cost and not at our cost.
- Obtain and review supplier self-inspection and qualification reports for accuracy and completeness.
Job Requirements:
- Associate's degree with two or more years of machine design experience. Preferred but not required would be BSME, or BS Mechanical Engineering Technologies.
- Must have a good understanding of the technical aspects of Automatic Feed equipment, possess knowledge of Automatic Feed's older equipment and a solid understanding of how it operates.
- Thorough understanding of fluid power systems (hydraulics, pneumatics).
- Proficiency in the following: Reliability & Maintainability (R&M) including Life Cycle Costing (LCC), Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA), Mean Time to Repair (MTTR), Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF), FEA's) per ISO 9001 requirements.
- Functional knowledge of SolidWorks or other 2D / 3D solid-modeling software application. Possess basic computer skills (esp. Microsoft Office products, including Access).
- Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved.
- Experience in the use of precision inspection equipment and be able to qualify parts for accuracy to prints.
- Must be willing to travel to customer sites as needed.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee frequently is required to walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand. The employee must frequently lift or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move objects up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.
