JOB DESCRIPTION:
This position requires a strong understanding of injection molding processes, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Set-Up Technician is responsible for performing the complete mold change process including mold/supply preparation in advance, mold removal, mold installation, screw cleaning when required, robot and secondary equipment set-up, clean up, and organization. Set-Up Technician personnel are responsible for clean-up of machine and surrounding areas, including proper clean up and storage of all mold change materials and supplies. Basic injection mold processing skills required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following (Other duties as may be assigned):
Assumes duties of this position in their absence: material handler, machine operator, auxiliary set-up, minor maintenance.
- Responsible to prepare and set up molds in the injection molding machine according to master daily schedule.
- Perform the complete mold change process including mold/supply preparation in advance, mold removal, mold installation, screw cleaning if required, robot and secondary equipment set-up, clean up, and organization.
- Responsible to inspect the mold and the entire set-up including but not limited to, verify clamps, water lines, limit switches, ejector bars, and mold protection setting is working properly prior to releasing the press to the shift supervisor or process technician for start-up of samples or production run.
- Set-Up Technician personnel are responsible for clean-up of machine and surrounding areas, including proper clean up and storage of all mold change materials and supplies. Basic injection mold processing skills required.
- Daily mold preventive maintenance includes cleaning, lubricating, and inspecting for wear and/or damage all production molds currently running in the production presses.
- Repair or replace damaged or worn components within molds to restore functionality and prevent defects in finished products. This may involve disassembling, cleaning, repairing, and reassembling molds using precision tools and techniques.
- Completes inspection and preparation of the mold before the removal or break down of the mold from the press.
- Reports any damage by writing up a work order for repairs needed prior to the removal of the molds from the press.
- This position may involve identifying and troubleshoot mold-related issues, such as flashing, sticking, or defects in finished products. Utilize your technical expertise to diagnose root causes of problems and implement appropriate solutions to minimize downtime.
- Document all maintenance activities, including repairs, replacements, and preventive measures, accurately and comprehensively. Maintaining detailed records is essential for tracking maintenance history, analyzing trends, and informing future maintenance decisions.
- Contact production shift supervisor or the technicians before releasing the press to production in the event of any damage of safety hazards.
- Must have a forklift operating license and company will provide training to obtain license.
- Stays with the mold change until completed even if his/her shift ends, or unless the shift supervisor releases him/her.
- Carries out set-up man’s responsibility in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.
- Communicate instructions from shift to shift. Works as a team player to ensure the success of the shift. Must be able to work overtime as needed, remain flexible and open to possible schedule changes in order to meet business needs.
- Follows all safety procedures required in work area, wears PPE as needed, attends safety meetings, and reports safety issues regarding equipment or unsafe/hazardous conditions.
Position Requirements:
- Minimum of two years of mold maintenance or set up experience in a plastic injection molding facility.
- Exhibit strong mechanical aptitude, understanding of mold functionality, and a proactive attitude towards enhancing personal expertise in plastics processing, particularly in relation to mold functions.
- Showcase proficiency in safely and efficiently disassembling, cleaning, troubleshooting, and reassembling injection molds, applying acquired knowledge and skills effectively.
- Knowledgeable about hot-runner operations, fundamental maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting techniques. Proficient in basic electrical troubleshooting for probes, heaters, thermocouples, and manifolds.
- Read, write, and speak English.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
Preferred:
- Proficiency in using various tools and equipment such as hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments is necessary for mold maintenance tasks.
- Ability to analyze problems, identify root causes, and develop effective solutions is vital in mold maintenance to minimize downtime and ensure smooth operations.
- The ability to work within a team and collaborate with other technicians, engineers, and production personnel.
