Job Summary
Responsible for implementation, coordination, installation, and/or oversight of a wide variety of activities for complex network cable wiring systems for voice, data, and video.
Summary of Essential Job Functions, Specific Duties, and Responsibilities

- Use of construction drawings, schematic diagrams, BICSI specification, EIA/TIA codes and system-defined standards to move or install new communications infrastructure.

- Measure, cut, assemble and install conduit, pathways or appropriate ceiling supports.

- Pull various types of cable according to pathways, install related structured cable components and completes necessary termination.

- Use specialized testing devices and system-defined standards to test compliance requirements and document results.

- Ensure standard quality levels are met with respect to fire stoppage, construction regulations, EIA/TIA codes and BICSI structured cabling standards.

- Lift, carry and move cable and equipment as required.

- Works with unshielded twisted pair, single and multi-mode fiber optic, coaxial cable or equivalent.

- Use diagnostic equipment to troubleshot problems, maintain lines, or repair cable (LAN meters, fiber-optic light source and power meter, laptop computers, copper and fiber optic cable, or equivalent may be used).

- Install, maintain, and troubleshoot intra building fiber-optic cables from IDF to wiring closets. Terminate with all fiber-optic connectors, manufacture and provide fiber patch cords.Maintain and troubleshoot outside plant inter building fiber-optic cables, or equivalent and oversee contractors.

- Troubleshoot complaints.

- Certify data wiring and monitor, inspect, and conduct all tests required, ensuring all system component connections are operating properly (Equipment such as CAT5e and CAT6 for compliance Ethernet and Fast Ethernet standards, and other comparable equipment).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

- Considerable knowledge of cabling infrastructure and electronic components required for networking.

- Considerable knowledge of fire stoppage regulations, EIT/TIA codes, BICSI standards, etc.

- Ability to install structure cabling components that meet the needs of the system.

- Ability to read construction drawings, schematic diagrams, and system-defined infrastructure standards.

- Ability to maintain complete and accurate records.
Minimum Training and Experience
-
- High school diploma or GED supplemented by either associate’s degree in related field or vocation training in applicable field or 3 to 5 years of experience which includes required skills, knowledge and abilities.

Physical:

- Must be able to operate a variety of equipment and tools including diagnostic and testing equipment, hand tools and power tools.

- Must be able to lift objects up to 75 lbs and be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally.

- Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.

- Must be able to climb and work on tall ladders – up to 100 ft in air.
-
- Must be able to work on miscellaneous types of lifts, etc. - up to 250 ft. in air.
-
- Must be able to go through and work in very confined spaces.
-
- Must be able to work outdoors in hot and very cold conditions, including indoors (such as commercial/industrial freezer with subzero degree temperatures).

- Must be able to work on your feet for periods in access of 8-hrs, includes, walking and standing.
Other:

- Requires the ability to utilize basic mathematics (add, subtract, multiply divide, utilize decimals and percentages, measure, etc).

- Requires the ability to read a variety of correspondences, manuals, instructions, journals, etc.

- Must be able to prepare and complete forms, reports, documentation, etc. AND be able to apply basic rules of grammar, punctuation, dictation, and style.

- Requires the ability to speak and signal people to convey or exchange information, includes receiving instructions assignments or directions from superiors.

- Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with persons under stress; able to deal with interpersonal temperament.

- Requires the ability to talk and hear and to communicate via telephone, etc.

- Must be able to differentiate between specific colors and shades of colors on cable wires, etc.

- Must be able to properly dress and represent self in business-like manner.

- Should have basic hand-tools for installation of data cabling systems and have fiber optic hand-tools.
Waveguide Communications services the cruise ship industry, requiring our Marine Operations Technicians to travel all over the world.These Technicians (both, contractors and employees) are therefore required to have, at minimum; the requirements listed below and/or must be able to comply.
General Requirements:

- Be able to travel outside the U.S. for periods of 1-2 weeks or 1-2 months.

- Be financially self-sufficient to support yourself for discretionary spending as well asIncidental (reimbursable) business expenses

- Possess a credit card and a U.S. bank account (WGC transfers pay and expenses electronically into your accounts).

- Be able to pass 7-yr background check through local Port Authorities.

- Be in possession of or able to obtain the TWIC card (non-paid by WGC).
-
- Be able to obtain applicable PORT badge – regular fees paid by WGC, late fees are on own.
U.S. Citizens:

- Be in possession of a U.S. Passport.

- Be in possession of a certified Birth Certificate.

- Be in possession of a valid Social Security Card.

- Be in possession of a valid Driver License, Florida or other State.
Resident Alien, Non-U.S. Citizens:

Recommended for all Techs:

- Preferable own a laptop - and must be computer literate.

- Much of our communications is via email or electronic file transfers

- Must be able to work a spreadsheet or word document for sending electronic expense reports, documentation and timesheets, etc.

- Ability to email family by email is more cost effective as compared to internationally telephone charges.

- Possess a cell phone to maintain contact when travelling.

- Be in possession of basic hand-tools for installation of data cabling systems.
-
- Fiber optic hand-tools (a plus).

- Must be able to read, write and speak English.
