The Solvent Lab Technician is responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to the safe handling, preparation, and analysis of solvents, with a focus on ethanol and butane. This role involves ensuring compliance with safety protocols and assisting in laboratory operations.
Job Description:
Solvent Handling:
Safely handle, store, and dispense solvents, including ethanol and butane, following established safety procedures.
Monitor and maintain solvent inventory levels and report any discrepancies.
Sample Preparation:
Prepare solvent samples for analysis, ensuring accuracy and adherence to laboratory protocols.
Dilute, mix, and label solvent samples as required for testing.
Laboratory Equipment:
Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, such as distillation units, spectrometers, and chromatographs.
Perform routine equipment calibration and maintenance tasks.
Quality Control:
Assist in quality control measures to ensure the integrity and purity of solvents.
Conduct routine tests and inspections on solvent samples and report any deviations.
Safety Compliance:
Follow strict safety protocols and adhere to environmental regulations when working with solvents.
Report any safety incidents, near misses, or equipment malfunctions promptly.
Documentation:
Maintain accurate and detailed records of solvent handling, preparation, and test results.
Assist in the preparation of reports and documentation for laboratory procedures.
Collaboration:
Collaborate with laboratory staff, researchers, and scientists to support experiments and projects involving solvents.
Communicate effectively within the team and assist with data collection and analysis.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; a degree or coursework in chemistry or a related field is a plus.
Prior experience working in a laboratory environment, preferably with solvents like ethanol and butane.
Knowledge of safety protocols and regulations related to solvent handling.
Basic understanding of laboratory equipment operation and maintenance.
Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
Effective communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
